73 GMC MOTORHOME REAR AIR BAG EMERGENCY ROD INSTALL

73 GMC MOTORHOME REAR AIR BAG EMERGENCY ROD INSTALL

Install starts at 2:30
I found some footage I thought I had lost from the second trip to check out the ’73 GMC Motorhome.
The driver side rear air bag was pretty ragged on the coach, and blew out when I tried to air it up. The previous owner had bought an emergency air bag rod, and I’d found it in the prior inspection. To get the rear bumper (and generator muffler) out of the dirt, I cut the blown-out bag and put the rod inside it.
Ragusa sells a similar rod – sure handy to have if you’re still running the factory single bags!

I aired up the passenger side bag – it held air just fine (I think it may have been replaced at some point).
Neat old coach! I hope I can go check it out again soon – I talked with the owner and have permission. I want to make sure he’s there so I can get some more background information on it. He’s a nice guy that had been wanting one for years!
The old gal has put some miles in – there are tourist stickers from Mexico in the mid 70’s, and a map of Mexico in the glove box. She’d be a great one to get back on the road. 🙂
