My 2003 also had these two bolts with the nute on the motor side. Could not reach the inner one at all so cut the tab on cab side and glued it after rebolting into place.

thanks for the video.i own an 00 sonoma no problem with my heater but its good to know what it takes to do this job,btw how did you diagnosed the heater core was damaged?

Austin S says:

you’re right there is also 2 10mm nuts on the engine side of the firewall

Randyvid1 says:

Very good video. I replace my core today. I spent way too much time trying to get the bolt under the thermister(sp) back through the firewall. I ended up drilling an access hole.
Also, at 1:00 of this video, yoiu removed a 10mm bolt inside. Didn’t you have to remove 2 10mm nuts on the engine side of the firewall also? My 1998 has them. You can see the backside of the 2 studs in your video.

Austin S says:

No It doesn’t have to come out. I thought it would take some weight out of the dash but it didn’t make a difference.

Culhane92 says:

did you take your radio the whole way out or just the screws
