Hello AVTreasures86,
Quick question do you know the easiest process for getting the oil pan out on a 4wheel drive model around the same year as yours? I do not have an engine hoist and have a small floor jack other than my jack stands. I do not like taking my truck to the shop ever, I am fairly savy with my truck but this one is giving me hell. any advice would be awesome, you can email me or reply here up to you! enigma8610@gmail.com

I have a 79 GMC C/1500 am i able to get into this as well without removing my engine. it looks lik i should be able to just want to clarify

AVTreasures86 . says:

Yes, we had to unbolt the exhaust to get the pan out. That’s a shame, if they would just put in a new drain plug when the threads on the plug start to show signs of wear, that would never happen! Thanks for watching!

DIEGO BARRAGAN says:

Do you have to remove the exhaust or raise the engine so the oil pan can clear the cross member? I’m thinking of replacing my oil pan on my obs Tahoe 2wd since some Jack A** stripped the drain plug at those quick oil change places.

ArmaAceChannel says:

ya if you have 4 wheel drive this job is twice as hard

AVTreasures86 . says:

Usually every 6 months or 1000 miles. I don’t drive the truck very much but my trips are short sometimes so I try to change it twice a year for good measure.

bobl78 says:

how often you change the oil to keep it that clean ?

Doug Smith says:

Thanks, it wasn’t too hard to do.

AVTreasures86 . says:

Hey Doug, sorry I’m so long getting back to you. I just got your question. I’ll send you a P.M. with some more information…

Doug Smith says:

Hey, Ray. I need to change the oil pan gasket on my 88 K2500 350. Of course, it’s still the same body style. Do you know if I have to remove the front cover to remove the pan?

Thanks,
Doug

AVTreasures86 . says:

Hey what’s up man, it is a full time job for sure, but when you price new vehicles these days, it pays to keep what you have in good shape.

Use a thin putty knife to work through the RTV that’s holding it on a little bit at a time. You don’t want to do anything that will change the shape of the pan. It really relies on the pan being perfect and the mounting surface being clean for the new gasket to seal properly.

Good luck with your project and Thanks for watching my video!

Anyone can have a new vehicle, but to keep one like new is whats hard.. I’am taking
a oil pan off a 1971 Camaro z28, got all bolts out but man that sucker must have cilicone on it or something because it wont budge, Whats best way to work it off without bending it up??

AVTreasures86 . says:

Hey Matt, I ordered it from the local GM dealership parts department.

Matt Dallaire says:

where did you order the gasket from?

sloepok says:

I have a 97 GMC with a 5.0L, pan is leaking do to rust. Do you know if the 5.0L pan will come out without dropping the exhaust crossover pipe?

compdude957 says:

Ok, the water pump on my Yukon is an AC Delco but its a different part number according to my dad. Its a cheaper model and we probably should of got the one you suggested. It’s not leaking much but at some point it will need to be replaced. Yes, the intake manifold gaskets were replaced about 4 years ago. The engine started ticking and that’s when we figured out that the gaskets were leaking.

AVTreasures86 . says:

Hey Justin!!

Me too, it was slowly getting worse. Thanks man, I try to keep it looking as good as I can. Next to my house, it has been my biggest investment! Water pumps are common failures. Just a suggestion, get an AC Delco Part #251-719 water pump when you replace yours again. It is more expensive but worth it.That’s what I put on my truck when the original failed and that was 6 years ago, no problems so far. Have the intake manifold gaskets been replaced on your Yukon yet?

Thanks Justin!!

compdude957 says:

Hey Ray!

Glad you got that taken care of! It’s one less problem now! Man, your truck looks nice! The body, underneath, and under the hood! My Yukon doesn’t look near as good as your Sierra! It’s also starting to leak coolant from the water pump that we just replaced about a year ago so it looks like we might have to replace it again sometime. GM makes great trucks though!

Great video Ray!

AVTreasures86 . says:

Hey Ray;

Nothing better then the feeling of changing a few things on the rig and knowing that it is good to go for another number of miles on the road.
Truck looks in amazing shape Ray!

Hey Fritz!!

No problem! I was just about to send the video! I figured you had not checked the box..lol! You were 5 minutes ahead of me!

I love my GMC!! I know I will always get where I am going!

Yes sir! Another 15 years before I see that pan leak again!

Absolutely Brother, you know that’s the only way! At 15 years old, an oil leak here and there is not unusual. Staying on top of them is key!

Yep, she is Kentucky bound here soon!

Tuff Stuff rules! Cleaned it right up!!

Thank you Fritz!!

AVTreasures86 . says:

Hey Brett!!

Thank you Brother!! This is how my Dad took care of his vehicles and he passed that trait along to me. You are right on there my friend, Maintenance is the key! Taking care of things before they snowball into worse trouble is the only way to go!! Will do Brett, I have a back log of videos to edit. The setback with my original account slowed me down for over a month until I figured out what to do about it. You too Brett, I am looking forward to more of your videos!!

AVTreasures86 . says:

Hey Mike!! Thanks Brother, It came to me like this so I try to keep it that way! It’s the biggest investment I have ever made for a vehicle. The Red is hard to keep looking clean, especially this time of year! Thanks Mike! I plan on keeping her as long as I can!

AVTreasures86 . says:

Hey Matt!! Thank you very much my friend!! Tommy was doing the work. He is my right hand man around the shop. Instead of doing it myself, I waited for a slow day when he needed something to do. I wear too many other hats to stay on a big job like this very long. He does great work so I know I am in good hands.

The solvent in our parts washer is a mineral spirit based cleaner. It works well and is not as hazardous as other solvents. I will send you a link to check out.

Thanks Matt!!

Hey Ray!! Fantastic job my friend!! Man you know what you’re doing! You’re a great mechanic!!

One question. At 2:10 in the video, is that just soap and water, or is that diesel bath? Just wondering, I’ve always heard that diesel fuel cleans up oil pans/car parts really well, so I was curious. I’ve seen a diesel bath used to clean up an oil pan before.

great video Ray!!
