Just have your valves rolling around. Real smart
but the belair doesn’t have that connector on it
Once again a video with no voice. My 700R4 is hitting real hard in 1st
gear. I have gone through every inch of that tranny and can’t see why this
is happening. The kickdown cable is adjusted properly. I have asked a few
transmission folks and asked them if a trans cooler can go bad? The fluid
is still a bright red and is not burned. Any help in this matter will be
appreciated. I am running 4:56 gears in the rear end..I hope this is not
what my issue is.
If your surfaces are properly prepared you shouldn’t need any sealer. With
proper surface perp and torque no sealer needed!!
You’ll want to mount everything back up and secure it in place. While the
Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) solenoid isn’t 100% necessary, it lowers RPM
by locking the torque converter. Such as during accelerating to speed. The
trans will shift from 1-2-3-4th then the RPM’s drop again when in 4th as
the converter locks up. It will unlock when given a certain amount of
throttle. VT247
nice video…
can u do 200MR tranns like tht to ? thks again
That not your first the doing transmission work right, lol Your not
checking any of the clutches or bans?
@OH2GTStang No, you won’t have to remove the tranny. May have to take out
the center console to get to the shifter. Should be 4 bolts holding it on.
Disconnect the linkage going to the trans and remove the old shifter and
install the new one with the linkage going to the trans. Have a B&M
Megashifter in my Toyota Supra project. They’re neat, let’s you lock in to
gear without it slipping into the next accidentally. VT247
I’m about to rebuilt my transmission it’s just like this one I had it in a
scottsdale but it went out.
To fix this problem, would the transmission need to come out again?
I can make a 700R4 bark the tires in second and third (if you got enough
motor) When ever I build one that has had a shit kit put in I take it out.
Got my own bag of tricks. 6 bucks at the hardware store and a few drill
bits is all I need.
It’s working correctly then : D VT247
No, just drop the pan and install the parts. May need to drop the valve
body if you’re going to install a firmer shifting shift kit. May not need
to drop the valve body for the 3-4 upshift valve kit VT247
Check line pressure. Also, without an aftermarket 3-4 upshift valve
installed, the 700R4 won’t go into 4th if the throttle is over 1/2
depressed. This is also why if you are in 4th gear and give it 1/2 throttle
or more it shifts into 3rd. Also check for proper throttle valve (TV) cable
operation. This helps to control line pressure. There are different
settings that can be used for the shift kit. Without positive shifts, I’d
say they set it up for ‘RV’ use instead of the racing. VT247
Yes, you’ll see where it goes according to the instruction manual. Check
ball position 1 according to the diagram. VT247
I am planning on installing a B&M Ratchet shifter in my mustang, do you
know if I would have to take out the trans to do that?
E mail me at AV8R57@aol.com if you can get your hands on a set of B&M shift
kit instructions that is half the battle. I can walk you through the rest.
I used a rubber gasket. It will still create a good seal with or without
the silicone. On a flat surface like the pan gasket, it won’t matter much.
But on a surface that has edges, I like to put silicone on in the grooves
to ensure that there is no area for fluid to escape. VT247
Oh yea, no doubt about it. It’s got a shift kit. It’s a race car. If the
trans has been rebuilt, I’m sure it has some type of performance build to
it. Shift kits are cheap and they make the 700R4 last twice as long with
one in there. It has a shift kit. VT247
how hard is it to install this shift kit?
I have a question for you, dropped my tranny pan 2 replace gasket once i
removed the filter TCC was just hanging there i later found the 2 bolts in
the pan as far as i can tell its a self grounding unit and i have no idea
how long it has been like that i have had the truck for about 2 years now
its a 86 suburban k20. So my question is should i bolt it back down? what
difference would it make and how would i tell? i have taken the truck on
the freeway its does 70mph easy as far as i can tell
WATCH OUT that converter clutch is very important. 82-86 at least is
required to have lock up. because there is a lube circuit that is opperated
by that solenoid. ALSO Do not reinstall Large Copper Flash Check ball in
valve body. it is a fail safe ball for the Throttle Valve. best to remove
forever. Note only the late modles even came with that ball (87-93)
You have full control over the shift pattern after installing this kit. The
overdrive kicks in after line pressure in the 3-4 upshift valve is right.
VT247
i just put everything back together today i can feel the rpm almost feels
like it going into a 5th gear and when i step on the brake the rpms go up
about 200 i say
Thank you for your response
Nice. I learned something. I have the same transmission type. I have a
question, was the gasket cork or rubber? i know to use sealant on cork but
i hear not use it on rubber. I hear you use and dont use it on rubber
everytime i ask. So what you think?
You can install a shift kit into a 200R4, but the valve body and procedure
is different. The shift kit lets the trans shift faster. A shift kit and a
trans cooler will help keep the trans alive a lot longer. VT247
i learned a lot off this video. thank you…
poor lighting, sketchy explantion,
I have put mine all back together except the auxiliary valve body. Was
there a steel ball that is supposed to go in that valve body?
im going to be working on a 1953 chevy belair with a 1975 chevy 386 stroker
engine with a th-350 tranny i want to replace it with a 700R4 tranny out of
a 85 chevy pickup it has a connector on the driver side of the tranny i
called a transmission shop they say i have to have it modfield if i don’t
it will burn out the tranny in a 1/4 mile
hi, i saw your comment and was curious. i am wanting to so a shift upgrade
on my 4l60e and was wondering if you could and would pass on your secrets?
if i can up my shift for way less than the price of a kit and if it is not
needed well, your input would be much valued and appreciated bud… cheers
Yes. If you put it in Overdrive, it will shift through all the gears. With
the kit I installed it has a noticable instant shift. It allows you to
control what gear your in as well. So if you want to hold 1st or 2nd gear,
it will stay in that gear and shift faster than stock. VT247
will it still shift through all 4 gears automaticly
@redneckbryon Trans jobs are not fun. Sharp edges and the fluid leaks
everywhere. Done lots of transmission fixes. Didn’t need to check the
internals such as the bands or clutches. The tranny was good, just needed
beefed up for diesel use. VT247
I had a a TH350 transmission conversion to a 700R transmission done on my
69 Camaro. The transmission was just rebuilt along with putting in a shift
kit. When driving the car with a heavy acceleration, such as getting on the
freeway, it won’t go into 4th gear. If driven lightly on the gas pedal, it
will shift into all gears. The guys at the trans shop can’t seem to get it
right. What do you think it could be? Also I’m not getting positive shifts.
i love to have 350 or 400 tranny they r the best transmissions from gm
You can get better MPG by being able to lock the torque converter while in
any gear but first. Go with a torque converter that allows for lock up. It
can still have a stall, just make sure it has a lockup feature. Everything
else in this video will allow full control of the shifting and lockup. VT247
You can run an aftermarket torque converter lock up unit like the TCI one I
installed in this video. It’s the detent cable that is so important for
shifting. It controls line pressure and shift points. The aftermarket TCI
TCC Torque Converter lockup kit allows you to drop the RPM’s while in any
gear except 1st by locking the torque converter. VT247
hi I have th700r4 tranny on my 97 truck and I hate this kind of tranny it
is piece of shit from gm
im going to have my tranny rebuilt i bought it from a junk yard i have some
guy to do it for me. i want to get a red alto rebuild kit, Zpack kit,
so if i had this done would it increase my MPG’s thats why i got this
tranny. A guy came by my work he had a 56 chevy belair with a a 383 chevy
stroker motor with 500 plus horse power with a 700R4 tranny he told me hes
getting 31-32 Mpg on the high way he can go up a mountain with no problem
Some 700s lock in 3rd also… mine does
so how is the shifting pattern is it manual and how does overdrive kick in?
i just hope my 383 stroker hits between 400 to 450 horse power is want i’m
wanting
the th350 is vacuumed shift powered a rubber hose goes to the tranny and to
the intake manifold
Ok I have a 88 firebird 350 tpi 700r4 trans going in to 2 gear 3 gear and 4
it will sling the car around it shifts hard from first to second in normal
driving and same for the rest the trans was rebuilt two years ago I just
got the car it shifts super quick in each gear no slip at all do u think it
has a shift kit?
