Both of these OBD2 port scanners will show DTC info. The Launch X431 scanner has a nice color screen for readout that gives a Health Report on the Status of your different control modules in your vehicle and you also get lifetime free updates. The scanner will auto-detect your VIN number for GM vehicles. This being a Bi-Directional scanner, you can send commands to test functions on your vehicle. There are some Learn and Reset functions that are offered on the scanner depending on what year/make/model GM you have.

I often wondered if the so called cyl deactivation devices like Pulsar just keep the transmission in L9, while the dash still shows D or L10, making people think it is doing something magical when it is not. It would be nice to see the RPM difference between L9 and D when going 60 MPH with that scanner. I think being a 10 speed, there would only be about a few hundred RPM difference.
