Thank you for this! The drain I installed had rectangular holes on each
side of the cylinder (they all did). After assembly there’s still some
putty showing in these holes. Is that normal? Looks like it could make
contact with water passing through the drain. Should I worry about this?

Thanks!

Thanks for the video! :-)

This video made the entire process easy and worry free. Thank you for the
video. Keep up the good work!

It worked! But…after everything was tightened, water was leaking from the
rubber gasket from where the pipe assembly attaches to the bottom of the
bowl. The replacement assembly I bought from Home Depot is mainly plastic
and I didn’t want to over tighten for fear of breaking it. What can I use
to seal to prevent the leak? Thanks very much for your help, I could not
have done it without you!

Pammie Lynn says:

Hi Tony, When we tried to install the pivot rod, it’s like it keeps
slipping out. It feels like it catches, look in the sink, drain goes up and
down, then…it slips out. Any ideas? Oh, and when it would catch, the
drain doesn’t go up very far allowing the sink to drain. Thanks

Dude. You. Helped. Me. Out. A. Lot. I never did this **** with my dad or
grandfather….I must’ve saved about $300.00 or so….Thanks very much,
Tony. You have helped so much! By the way, the production of the videos
(this one and replace a bathroom sink”) were both done very, very well. Way
to go. I hope you get your own show.

Hi Tony, love your video and simple tutorial. I have a quick question
regarding changing the vanity. I have an 18″ vanity sink and would like to
switch it to a 24″. It will be a tight fit (vanity is between bath tub &
toilet). Is there a recommended distance from one thing to another? Thanks!

ronpaulcollier says:

Thanks, TDT. Very cool. Very, very cool, indeed.

Thanks Tony

Hey Tony, if I want to replace the drain with a commercial mesh drain, is
the process the same (only without pivot rod step)?

tight as I can get it. any suggestions on how to correct this. I tried 3
times and it is the same each time.

So, I didn’t think I would ever say that watching a how to fix a drain

so much more enjoyable to watch.

I want to update my shower faucet, individual faucet knobs from gold to
either chrome or satin nickel. The current ones are cold from kohler
placed their by the previous owner. Is it possible to use universal parts
from home depot??? A few asian modelers told me I need to replace
everything which mean removing the culture marble slap from the wall and
breaking into the wall to do all that. My culture marble surround is aprox
4k, so that is too expensive to do. Some bathroom remodel is only 5K here
in the siliconvalley. I am trying to update all the faucets in both of
my bathrooms without having to paid for major remodeliing?? THere are
universal faucet pieces at home depot and do you think that may work????
I am in the siliconvalley and willing to pay someone that knows how to do
it with the universal faucet pieces for sprout, faucet, etc.

Thanks for the video. I used it today when I replaced my bathroom drain. I
was intimidated by the job nd have been living with a bucket under the
drain for three months. I am sure I could have done the job with the sparse
directions on the plumbing parts package. However, watching your video and
pausing it as I completed each step greatly increased my confidence. I used
the video, that is, until the “Test the Drain” segment. You removed the
J-tube, as you said you would, but did not install a new one on the video.
By the way, my old and new compression nuts came with expanded cogs for
hand tightening. No tools were needed except pliers to loosen the rusted
thumbscrew on the old plunger and a 10mm box wrench to tighten the hex
nut/screw on the new one.

I appreciate the shit out of you. Just so we’re clear. Now, to my
question… do you HAVE to replace the J tube or is that just getting fancy
with the spices?

Good video but you didn’t show how to replace the trap back on place? How
is people gonna be able to drain that water if that trap is not hooked up
to the drain pipe. Also how about thread sealant ? Still good video bud.
Moan buy it for looks, Buy it for life. Lol

This is such a great video we need to do my moms sink so this will really
Help Thank soooooooooo much

Tool Dude Tony says:

@Sierra – You probably don’t need to replace the whole assembly. If it were
me, I’d take it appart and put a fresh roll of plumber’s putty around the
top of the drain and then I’d check the gasket that is under the sink just
above that big nut and see if it looks okay (not ripped or disintegrating).
Then be sure that big nut is nice and tight. If that doesn’t do it, you may
need a new assembly. They are usually under $10. I hope that helped. Thanks
for asking.

TheFarWestist says:

Some advise would be helpful if the drain flange does not unscrew from the
drain – seems likely on a older drain assembly. I had to tear mine off; not
an easy task tearing metal; it took a long time.

nina wade says:

Thank you, your video helped out alot. I’m going to replace mine all so.

Cheryl Thomas says:

couldn’t you just come do it for me? lol You made it look so easy.

Tool Dude Tony says:

You may be tightening it too tightly. Be sure to put a bead of plumbers
putty around the hole and tighten the nut so that it is snug but don’t try
to crush it. The putty will make it seal. Thanks
