GM Wiper Motor Fix

GM Wiper Motor Fix

The video shows me fixing a windshield wiper motor problem in my 1994 GMC Sonoma, apparently very common and covered under recall for late 90’s and early 200…

Thank you so much. I did this fix on my 94 S10 ZR2 today. It works now. You are awesome

I bought my 95 GMC Jimmy new …. never received any recall. Yes, I also fixed the cold the solder joints. Image driving at highway speed with wiper fails in storm. That’s one of the reasons (spider injectors, fuel pump failure and transfer case all failed in the first 3 years)I will never buy another GM cars or trucks.

90 Camaro here, same problem (well delay was gone on mine). I think my assembly is a little different, but still has the same problem. I took it out and could only really see one possible cold solder joint, but I soldered that, cleaned the connector and blammo, working delay. Thanks for the motivation to finally get this out the way.

This problem affect many more models than we part of the recall, I’ve heard of several models as late as 1999 with the exact same problem. I had the same problem on my 1997 model. Thanks for the tip good sir. I’ve saved a bunch I’m sure.

i worked at delco that made these the motor is made in usa the delay board is made in mex they cant make anything right gave us a bad name the motor will run forever …yes there was a recall…they just put in the same made board ..but its an easy fix

Bought a1995 gmc sierra, wipers worked when they wanted, saw your video did what you said and so far they are working. Thanks so much posting this helped my husband fix it himself instead of paying a fortune at the garage…:)

I repaired my board last night after watching your video. My wiper washer wouldn’t work at all, and the wipers would sometimes stay on even when turned off. I re- soldered all the point near the plug and it worked. Thanks for posting the video.

I once had a 93 Chevy pickup that had the bad solder joints on the windshield wiper board.
Having been in electronics for many years in the past this was an easy job for me.
One of the most common problems with TV circuit boards in the past was this kind of bad solder joint. I would estimate that at least 25-30% of all problems with TV circuits were joints of this kind. I imagine in an auto with all the extra vibration this would be an even bigger problem.

I just used this to repair my 1995 Sonoma. After pulling the board (using a right angle screwdriver from Harbor Freight & the Torx bit) I noticed one cold solder failure in the area described. I resoldered all of them & the wipers & washer are working great again. Thanks !

Awesome , purchased a new circuit board ($37.00 taxes included) Thanks to your video, had the old one out and new one in , in about ten minutes. Thanks

Chet's Jug says:

I would like to add that a cold solder joint is one that has cracked loose. Checking ANY circuit board starts with a visual looksee. Most of the time you can see it but, it doesn’t hurt to melt the major joints where the higher amperage goes through the connection, like where power wires come onto the board.Capacitors also carry large currents. Check for discolored and split capacitors. The tiny connections like IC’s and diodes, usually don’t have a problem.

I had this problem on my 97 GMC Sierra. All I had to do to fix it was to remove the circuit board as shown, then I took a screwdriver and closed the spring gaps on the motor that the three contacts went in. I guess over the years the vibration had caused enough space that they weren’t making good contact. Problem solved for me!!!!

Answer the damn phone!!! lol nice vid

motorcityhustler says:

thanks man, you saved me from dropping another $180. I took my 98 silverado to my mechanic about 2 years ago for this same issue. I just completed it in 10 minutes and it’s all systems go. Thanks again.

the gm dealers are a bunch of mother fuckers.i got a 2001 chevy impala and it had the problems withthe wipers.chevy impalas are a peice of garbage um talking about the 2000 to 2009 models.i would avoid buying chevy impalas.period.

j84ca says:

that´s a classic GM problem.

Juan Jimenez says:

thanks for you video, i did what you say and work rigth away, only spend 13 dollars, very good advice your video.

VQ1whales says:

Man O man My 91 Chev P/U had the same problem… Just happened to look close at the rear side of that board today . And no shit i found the cracked solder on three pins right where you show.. Then I you tubed it. And here was the answer the whole time after 5 years of the same intermittent problem… Buy the way..I think that part runs 80-90 bucks from the dealership..

shad0wxcalibur says:

Thanks for making this video. This saved me from spending a penny and a lot of time. Ironically, I saw this video looking for a guide on how to remove the entire motor and I watched this and it was the exact situation I had. So far they work. Normally they worked anyways but every now and then, they wouldn’t come on and I would give a good tap on the motor then recently they really freaked out and would stop working mid-stroke and I’d have to wiggle the connector just like you did.

mrsillyman says:

you are right.. there is a recall for newer trucks than my 1994 (I forget when it starts). The annoying this is the circuit board part # in my 1994 is the same as the circuit board part # coverd by the recall but GM said tough when I called…

Kirk Kettridge says:

Isn’t GM supposed to replace this part under a NHTSA recall? I too am having a problem with the wipers not working or working intermittently. While coming home from a job on Friday; I was on the freeway and the wipers were on medium speed when they just stopped working. I turned the switch on/off trying to get them to turn back on but they wouldn’t work. I had to pull over on the side of the freeway because I couldn’t see out of the windshield at this point.

Jeff W says:

I had to repair mine on my ’94 gmc sierra today. I was thinking of making a video to, but decided to check if someone already had done one.
