A short video showing how I compressed the door spring with 4 zipties, then put the door spring in its place and held it there while I cut off the zipties.

Great idea , thanks !!! I ended up using safety wire , two pieces twisted together ending up with two double wires .Had to twist the snipped wires out but thought it was safer than zips.
There is a 10 dollar tool for this that is a hell of alot safer

You do know they sell a tool to compress the spring. It's like $20 and will avoid dicking with zip ties. And possibly have springs flying at ya.
