Right On Bro

Chuck Fasst says:

Sorry, my phone doesn’t send me replies anymore. Sounds like u may very well have the same prob – the Starter Drive. But I also show how to fix the solenoid in these vids. No parts required.

Chuck Fasst says:

I will be paiting on that van with Duplicolor products this Summer. Subscribe if you would like to follow along.

Chuck Fasst says:

Yes I have done this. And you will often see this in NASCAR with a little pushing help from the crew

Chuck Fasst says:

Yeah man, power to the people 🙂

This is a great video for people that need to know & need to keep their own money. Like you said this is a throw away world & some people just don’t kown how to DIY. Thank you for helping out this world.

Have you ever drove on starter power?

I intentionally drove a POS car into a flooded street with water up to the hood and of course stalled it. Miraculously the power still worked.

Remembering an old 4×4 trick from when I had my CJ5, I put it in reverse and cranked the starter (5spd).

erereerrerererrrrreeerrrerrrerrrerrr

backed it out and parked it for a couple days

Those starters are torquey fuckers. You could probably run a car on one if you could feed it enough power and keep it cool.

I didn’t watch the video to learn how to work on a starter since I don’t have a starter problem. But once I started watching it and noticed how well you explained everything I decided to watch both of them. Thanks for doing a good job and posting the videos. I wish you would do a walk around video of the old van if you have time. You got my curiosity up. Thanks.

I’m getting a clicking sound when trying to start my 81 corvette, I would have to keep turn the key until it finally starts, but as time goes on its getting harder to get it to fire..My question is starter is bad or the solenoid? I believe my 81 vet has the starter and solenoid as one unit. Before i decide to replace the starter do you think that the clicking is due to the starter going bad??? Waiting to hear back from you. I can be reached here or my e mail is kmathews1@gmail.com

Awsome…big thanks to you Chuck. My old Chevy just died on me, it was obvious that it was the starter. But not knowing too much about starter repair, I checked the price for a new one, ~250$.!!! No way… started surfing and then I found your video. That give me the courage to open up the starter, purchase some spare parts for a few bucks and now it works fine again…great 🙂

Chuck Fasst says:

Bad field coils can cause slow turnover as well as excessive heat on the starter barrel from hedders. One other thing I did which was huge for me was to replace my starter cable with a brand new thicker one!

Steve Karns says:

Well after watching both video’s on fixing a small block starter, I know what I’m doing tomorrow afternoon. Thanks for the great video and all the tips. My question is, what was the problem with your starter? I’ve got one that just doesn’t seem to be strong enough sometimes. It’ll turn over really slow and then speed up, to about 150 RPM’s on the engine. I imagine it needs cleaned up and maybe a new starter drive like yours.

Nice vid on the rebuild of a starter….
Not many people realize that when they get a new part, that it’s been re-manufactured and that they’re just paying for someone else to rebuild it….
I’m in the process of rebuilding a couple of wheel cylinder’s, although my husband did replace them he said that it would be good for me to rebuild them….
Just so I could have the knowledge.of doing it, you never know… LOL

Hey I was watching Musclecar earlier and they mentined a company called “Victory Lap” for starter rebuild kits. Could be worth a try 🙂

Chuck Fasst says:

Hah! “Revenge of the dumb phone.” Smarter than we think some times. I see from my Video Analytics that many people watch my vids from mobile devices.

Chuck Fasst says:

Great, hope it worked out.

Right on!

There you go … 🙂

Got mine working like new, thank you!

You’ve given me great confidence to rebuild rather than replace in the future.I try to pass every gold nugget of info onto my son about this, which he seems amazed when I do get the chance to show him how to keep money in his wallet rather than pay someone else to “just fix it for me “.It does seem like I’m fighting every common misconception his friends dole out about just buying a new one,of whatever it is.Since he has to use his own money to fix things ,he’s figuring it out.

POPPASHANGO says:

Excellent Video! Great work and encouraging thoughts. I was prepared to purchase a new starter for my 70 buick but thought I would look into rebuilding my original starter. After hearing your thoughts on too many things are becoming disposable..and watching your video… I am going to repair my my starter myself. Thanks again and subscribed!

Like you, I not a big fan of my ‘dumb’ phone. But without all this technology, I would likely never have received the tribal knowledge you’re passing on to anyone willing to learn. The good and the bad. Not much good about planned obsolesence though.

thaunmystical says:

Good stuff!!!

Chuck Fasst says:

Through the years I rarely needed parts as I had many laying around to scrounge from but that was then. I googled the “Quick Start” Rebuild Kit mentioned in my vid and came up with nothing on that. Some cities might have a Starter Rebuilding Company. Otherwise the more specialized Auto Parts like Napa who serve local auto shops would be your best bet. Otherwise, try online. There has to be something out there … I hope.

Where do you go to find parts for starter motors?
