This is a 2002 Chevy Avalanche with the 5.3 engine. The exhaust manifolds rusted and several of the bolts broke off in the cylinder heads. This video shows the extraction of one of the broken bolts as well as the installation of the exhaust manifold bracket that can be bought for the impossible to reach driver rear exhaust manifold bolt that always breaks on the 4.8 5.3 and 6.0 GM engines.

good job. what a pain in the arse
Huge thank you. Didn’t know that bracket existed until your video. Have been living with a popping exhaust on my Tahoe for 5 years because I didn’t want to pull the head. Dorman makes what looks like a really sturdy one, part 917-107. It was $27 on Amazon.
Really? How about an EzOut, left handed drill bit, or even welding a bolt onto the broken stubs.
At list you should get a video shot going the actually stud extraction, this don't help much
My 03 yukon has a few broken bolts. From what I can tell they’re broke level with the manifold hole. I just today bought a socket bolt extractor. I’m wondering when I do pull of the old rusty manifolds if I shouldn’t try to wrench them out because they are all rusty as hell looking. ?? Just grind the tops and work on getting them out instead of having the break off inside the head.
I went to install the is bracket last night on a 2007 GMC 6.2. I could only find one hole, and the other and the braided ground. What did you do with the braided ground. Do you think removing the valve cover would help? Thanks.
I have 317 heads and a much easier way. Just put an 8mm nut on the broken bolt, weld the bolt to the nut, and spin it off with a wrench. Cross tapping aluminum will absolutely destroy the integrity of your threads and should be treated as a last resort.
And I thought a remodeling contractor was a pain in the butt job
Thanks alot for that Bracket idea, sounds like a life safer, no fucking way ur going to get that cylinder 8 bolt without pulling the engine.
Cool vid man, dude my Tahoe is stuck on Cylinder 8 that hard one next to firewall area, I dont know how to get it out, i been driving for a year like this on my headers and it sucks the leaks. 🙁 Any ideas how to get to it w a broke bolt inside. So shitty.
Where did you get those headers?
Great Video, thanks for sharing.
so this is basically a fix for that annoying ticking that is the exhaust leak right?
Where did u order that bracket?
