07 GM Cluster MOSFET, Pad and PCB damage Repair

In this video I repair the VFD (Driver info, odometer & PRND321 Display) circuit on a 2007 GM and clean up burn and pulled pad damage. This one did not need a gate resistor or driver chip.

The PRNDL indicator is not working on your cluster dude it's the same

Laby 70 says:

Some people would say that was a Jerry rig of a job. Well all I can say is ….Go try and fix it yourself and let me know if the Jerry rig is worth it or not?
There are several of us who do this sort of thing on all kinds of boards. Me personally have done it on retro game cartridges where the foil is cut into or sanded right off the board. Also fixed a few flat panel TVs.
The only instrument cluster I have messed with was from a 1997 Jeep Wrangler. And only after watching this guy work on tons of clusters. I managed to fix mine. So I can assure you the so called Jerry rig will save you money. It doesn't matter how it looks behind the plastic if your proud of what you have accomplished. This guy is only sharing his skills with people to help them and himself at the same time.
But haters will hate. And they will pay in the end. Because of their ego.

Houseof No says:

Wow, Captain Caveman just ripped that chip right off the board. That worked out well for the customer, apparently.

Hello, you have a very successful work, congratulations. I can't find the transistor that goes to the cruise control of my 2008 civic fd. Can you tell the model

NuWavUSA says:

Hi Jeff . On some of these GM
Clusters when you replace the mosfet, the new one will run super hot . Does the 8 pin ic control the timing to the mosfet ?
Or is it hopefully something else? Cap maybe?

M A says:

So the center lead on the mosfet doesn’t get connected to anything? Or did I miss something? Thanks in advance.

brandon thomas says:

What would cause a new mosfet to burn after replacing? I did run jumper wires as in this video and it worked for approximately 45 seconds. I was also curious of the middle lead on the mosfet. Thank you for your videos and your previous responses to my questions.

I've enjoyed your previous videos but this one has a new found level of respect of your ability and what you do, wish my hands had a fraction of shill level, pleasure to watch

Airman says:

Shellac is the same stuff they are using to insulate cooper wires in transformers, it is dirt cheap and it could be used to insulate the burned pcb substrate, it takes time to cure but when it does it has excellent mechanical adherence and excellent thermal stability hence its application in combustion engine head repairs

joe mcgrath says:

excellent work what are you using to power it up i am a retired tv cameraman and ex electronics engineer i want to start repairing auto electronic stuff part time i have all the test gear scope meter etc just need info on where to get parts diagrams etc and get familiar with out of circuit supply and dummy loads to units on the bench thanks

Vernon Land says:

So nice to see someone who knows what they're doing.

Cancis Diaz says:

Jeff I think my cluster from a 2004 Cadillac Escalade EXT may have silver migration. Can you fix it if it does ?My battery was going dead all the time then I replaced the battery but because it is new I have not had the problem. when the battery gets older it will probably do it again.

Cripple Bitchin says:

So Jeffrey where do you get the Mosfet? is it just a on line buy or are you getting quality stuff some where special? ANy help would be great thanks for the videos

bobby sipes says:

wood you give me your address if you can repair my 1995 tahoe cluster. my email address is bobbysipes@att.net thank you

Mike Hilton says:

I am tring to power a 2007 Tahoe cluster with a spare 12v harness, what wires do I need to hookup for full display

Seany Magic says:

You're awesome dude… we need more youtubers like you out there.

Noe Gil says:

can you please email me on pricing, my cluster has the same but the component is still in place, please contact me noe.gil562@gmail.com
