Kirk, your method works great, but I had one problem. The bottom of the
flapper ear was curved so the zip tie would not stay on, so I’ll just have
to reach in and do it myself. But thanks for the info.. 2003 Ford
Explorer..
You are a genius!! Of course, mine decides to start clunking right in the
middle of the coldest days of the year. So, out to my unheated garage I go
(-10 degrees outside) and go to work. I just had to be careful to not pry
on any cold pieces of plastic…but, the whole procedure took less than an
hour! So, if I can do this in -10 degree weather…there’s no excuse not
to get this done. Thank you so much!!
This was great! Glad I found the video. My wife’s Explorer has been doing
this and I was just about ready to make a service appt to take it in. But
I followed the demo and rigged it up in less than 10 minutes–sure enough
it worked and may have saved me several hundred bucks. Thanks!!
I fixed mine, today! Thank you so much for the tip. You saved me hundreds
of dollars and kept me from freezing as I drove home tonight. You rock!
Thanks….u save me money…
Took 15 minutes. Works great! Thanks!
Kirk…your video saved me hundreds of dollars, the fix took me about 30
minutes total, slightly damaged hands but they’re warm now! I can’t
over-state how great your solution is …Thanks
i have a 2005 ford explorer and same problem. it was going to cost $600.00
to have it repaired. After watching your video, i now have heat. Thank you
so much!
I can’t thank you enough for this. I got it done in 15 minutes and saved
$700.
Thank you so much, this video worked my problem out with my 2004 ford
explorer heater, its hot as heck in my truck now. lol
excellent jury rig
you’re…he doesn’t own awesome. lol
thank you it worked great you saved my butt your awesome
Great video!!!! Helped me out and I clicked on ad for you thanks
Dude! Youre awesome! Im a girl and was able to do it all by myself, took me
about 20 minutes. I didn’t take the center part off and was still able to
get the zip tie through the bottom. My husband was surprised that i fixed
it with no help from him at all. Thank you!!
IRS6562… sounds like you may have some other issue going on? Wish I could
help. Bruce Wayne… Glad it was able to help. Must be a very common
problem. almost 5,000 views in less than 2 months!
I would appreciate if everyone could please click on one (or more) of the
advertisements on my video. I get $ each time someone clicks on the links.
(you will not get signed up for anything, or have to buy anything!) Thanks!
Hm. That sucks. Sorry.
No I didn’t.. I was able to reach in through the glove box & push down on
switch…however even with the temp control switch to hot I was still
blowing cold air
Kirk I just finished the job thanks to you! I hope it lasts all winter!
Did you use the zip tie?
Thanks Kirk I will try it on my wifes 2003. Same exact problem. You just
saved me about $900!
Sure, you can blame me if you want. But you still wont have any heat. LOL.
Good luck!
If I can do it I am sure you can do it.
I’m 52 – If I can’t get it, can I blame u? lol
Yeah, I’d say it’s a LARGE job! I had several estimates done, and all the
mechanics said, that it will take about 6-7 hrs total – AT LEAST, and only
about 10 minute to replace the door . Plus – just the labor alone, in my
area anyways, will run about $500. OUCH!!!!!
Thank you so much, this video helped me out alot, I did the same exact
thing on my explorer yesturday and I’m happy I wont have to go through the
winter now with no heat.
Ok, Thanks
No I have not replaced it yet. That will be a much larger job. I think I
know how to do it without removing the whole dashboard. I will post a how
to video after I do it. But I will probably wait until the spring.
Did you ever replace the part? If so, I would be interested in how to do
that.
Awesome….Glad it was able to help!
Thank You very much, I am a 57 year old female and I was able to do this
with ease.
You can check out my other video to see behind the dashboard and see the
part that I put the zip tie on.
I tried your original fix of going through the glove box but I still get
cold air blowing after pushing down the switch.. This sucks as it’s 30 some
degrees in Chicago! Looks like its a trip to the repair shop and $600+ out
of my pocket 🙁
