Nice couldn’t remember how to do it.. if you get a pick in there right you
can do it without taken all that plastic off

Paul H says:

Hey guys, you don’t need to tear your dash apart to remove the switch. You
can remove it in less than 30 seconds if you follow this procedure exactly:

To remove the headlight switch:

1. Turn the headlights to on and pull the knob out like are turning on the
fog lights.

2.Then look at the bottom of the knob, you should see a very small opening.

3. Insert a very thin tool like a mini screwdriver into this opening, and
that should push in a tang and release the knob.

4. Rotate the knob 180 degrees and reinstall it. The bottom of the knob
should now be pointing at the headlights on position

5. Now, turn the knob counter-clockwise like you’re turning the lights off
and push the knob making sure it is seated.

6. Turn the knob back to the headlights on position. This is what releases
the tab and the entire switch assembly from the dash.

7. Pull the assembly to remove it.

Alexander thanks for posing this vid!! Finding that tab release to remove
the light switch, which revealed the one screw I couldn’t find for 2hrs.

Hey man, great video! Anyway, I drive a 2001 f150 xlt, it is prewired for
fog lights but didn’t come with it, so I’m planning to install aftermarket
and just mount them somewhere on the bumper. But my stock headlamp switch
doesn’t have the fog light switch in it. When you replaced yours, was there
a foglight wire harness ready to be plugged to the new switch with fogs? Or
did you have to make a new one?

Alexander Cameron says:

@MAGNUMFORCE5000 – Didn’t know that. I just kinda figured it out on my own.
Thanks for the info though 🙂

To turn ur fog lights on

johnny canuck says:

I have a truck that had no fogs but the wiring harnesses to plug into the
fogs so i bought the fogs installed them bought the fog light switch at the
junkyard but cannot find the third plug needed behind the switch to plug in
for the foglights? Is it super hidden under the dash or something, where was
it on yours? I dont think they would have put the fog light plugs in but
not the wire going to the switch but i sure cant find it if its there.

Deb Christensen says:

Thanks it was very helpful as i needed to change my light switch because it
broke.

Alexander Cameron says:

Not sure, mine was right there, all I did was put the fog light bumper w/
fogs in, plug them in and swap the switch and they worked no problem. It
may be burried in the dash.

MRiTSGEEZUS says:

not to kill ur mood but u can actually do it without taking screws & all
out. you turn the switch all the way to the right, then u pull the
switch(as if you were turning on your fog lights) then on the bottom left
of the switch u could see a little hole(make sure that switch is pulled)
then get something that fits the hole and pull to take the switch off and
once u have it off, put it back on “backwards” and since its backwards you
turn the switch to the right again and pull & it comes right iff

fratdawgg23 says:

Looks good man. I want fogs but don’t have the factory cut-outs in bumper
(’98 xlt 4×2).

edog1955 says:

Thanks so much…I have a 2000 F250. I pullled off the switch with a small
screwdriver–as you describe, and then I popped off the 3″X5″ cover.
Beneath the cover there is a plastic slide lock. I slid it to the left
which allowed me to pull out the guts and expose the wiring. I’ve heard
that my 2000 XLT is NOT wired for fog lights–even though the switch pullls
out. Any suggestions on how to wire the switch to activate the fog lights?
I’m installing PIAAs.

tylor717rs says:

is it a 4 wd??

SHANIUSA says:

Thx for the vid my firend i use to live in Providence u bring old memories
back

MAGNUMFORCE5000 says:

did you know there is an easyer way to remove that headlight switch? you
turn the headlight switch to on and pull out then at the the bottom of the
knob across from the white dot there is a little hole on the bottom side of
the knob to get a small screw driver in then you pop the knob of then
install in up side down and spin it to off the back to on and it releases
the clips that hold it in

Alexander Cameron says:

Lol Thanks!

Alexander Cameron says:

Yep

taylor dent says:

would i need to replace the whole module if just the knob is broken or can
i just buy another knob and pop it on

Whitehorze says:

@fratdawgg23 LMCtruck.com, They have vehicle specific catalogs of every
part ever made.

Alexander Cameron says:

@muddrider2014 – if it is just the knob you may be able to replace it but
id have to see it to verify.

Alexander Cameron says:

Yep
