mine was starting to tick at about 150k miles, had the work done , the
engine is smooth and quiet now, I am running only mobil 1 synthetic also
like Amsoil
I thought timing chains last a lifetime in cars with proper maintenance??
I rate myself as a 4 out of 10 as a mechanic, and I did this and skipped
about 40% of this bull$hit.
Its just a 10 minute job!
they made that look way to hard dont need to do half that shit
+ihartmacz – How about the DOHC? Have access to those????
like to see them mention the procedure for a FW drive like in the
continental. Like to do this in the car without having to lift or remove
the engine.
This really wasn’t that hard. Just take this out with you on a laptop and
get to work.
lol what a royal cluster fuck
Done this on my sons car good video on 4.6, had to buy 2 cam hold down
tools because one side would move when working on other. But you can bend
valves if you dont do it right!!!! I done it in the past. I learned the
hard way!! Also i marked dots with bright yellow so i could see them. Ten
started right up!!! Yah Yuh!!
I drive a cab same motor .what a beast.
well i just have one question this procedures are applicable to all 4.6 on
every year, because i have a 2005 mustang gt and i want to do the timing
chain replacement, can someone tell me about it.
Wow! It seems to me that is easier to perform open heart surgery on a
person. That makes me appreciate my mechanic lots more!
Is it just my Luck or is the sound no longer working on this video? It
sounds like Mario brothers sounds or something on my end… Anybody else
why did they use plastic for the guides it seems very cheap and fragile
tan utobsjjj
Meh anyone with a 4.6 has done this for several reasons
Big problem! We thought we had everything timed with the cam sprockets and
Crank sprokets. Now we can’t turn the engine completely over forward or
back. Did we hit a valve?
@damaster86 You have to make sure the engine is in-time. The best way is to
align the marks.
@YourePrettyGoood Not sure what you’re getting at. They want you to lock
the camshaft with the tool, then take the chain and tensioner off, then you
can rotate the crank how ever you want.
my camshaft gear broke how I put in time the camshaft? on my left side
Thats as easy as it gets,2001 models wont even let you completely take off
the valve covers with out dismounting your engine and moving it fwd from
the heater core and brake master cylinder and canister.
@imjustpassinthru This is to remove the back bolts on the Crank shaft
covers.
Could they have made it harder if they tried?
well you done fucked yourself…..
Do you have one on a 4.6 DOHC ??? I want one so bad please!
@ihartmacz Hey, think you can help me real quick? I’m trying to replace
some valves and the manual tells me to get TDC to remove the timing chain
and lock the camshafts with a tool. But then it says to rotate the
engine(after the timing chains are off) 45 degrees ccw so that the pistons
are all below the heads after the chain is off and the camshafts are locked
lol its a little confusing. Its basically saying get TDC and dont move it
but then move it 45 degrees ccw lol
No not my speakers… It just messes up the sound if I try to play it on
3G…when I’m connected to wifi it works fine. Weird!
….umm…what?
great video. thanks for posting
Every single engine has plastic timing chain guides! what do you want them
to make them out of? Metal?? Been that way for years I am a auto tech and
have seen it on all makes and models!
Umm for timing? Duhhh
Fuck that I’d rather pay a mechanic This time instead of doing it myself
yup the timing cover has 2 bolts in it or vice-versa
This video saved my life!!!!!
Excellent! Please post more 4.6 stuff like this!!!
Valve spring pressure on OHC engines can make the cam jump around and slam
valve faces into the piston. NEVER position the crank at TDC. Instead, go
forward or back about 15 degrees. Then the pistons are out of reach to the
valves. The timing is marked on the chain so just turn the cams a little
more, no big deal!
@cellocityced I’m sorry. 🙁 I’ll try and find them this week end. I have
them in a box in another location.
@ihartmacz Thanks for responding. It even says in this video never to
rotate the crankshaft or camshafts with the timing chain off. Not sure how
i’m supposed to rotate it 45 degrees ccw from TDC while the chains are off
if its supposed to remain TDC the whole time the chains are off. Weird.
Awesome video thanx thats help me a lot..
