i think this is the duratec engine, you might have a zetec engine. thank
you for the input, i am having the other problems you talked about too

NathanielCatch says:

Thank YOU! I’ll be posting some more stuff if anything breaks soon ;).

NathanielCatch says:

Glad I could be of assistance!

NathanielCatch says:

No problem. I agree on the trusting mechanics statement. Sometimes even
when they can be trusted the price is just too high for people.

NathanielCatch says:

Mine must have been taken off before I owned it. It should pop right off of
those bolts with enough pressure. However that may be the reason mine
doesn’t have one is because it was popped off and broken. Wish I could help
with that. Read the previous comment by oli ver. He figured it out.

Great video! I have one catch, my engine has something going across the top
of the passenger side of the valve cover like the one on the engine in this

I have to remove it to get to the valve cover bolts underneath it, but the
I can’t figure out how to pop the plastic clips without applying so much
pressure that they may break – assuming that’s what I have to do. Any
suggestions?

Mine is a 2.0 according to the vin number. Very good to know about the
vacuum leak situation. I do have a rough idle when it’s warm and especially
when I stop at lights it bogs down a bit. Maybe I will check that out.
Thanks!

howmon69 says:

That must be the 2.3, I just replaced one on my 2003 Focus with a 2.0L. It
was much easier. I wanted to mention that just because you replace the
valve cover gasket, don’t get happy yet. Those rubber gaskets Ford used
don’t always seal properly. I just did a smoke test to check for vacuum
leaks and saw smoke coming from the NEW gasket..After a few minutes it
pushed some oil out. I knew it was leaking again anyway, because I saw it
on the drivers side. (Continued in next message)………

NathanielCatch says:

Thanks!

Oli Ver says:

dude i’m telling you. It is really easy to fix and almost impossible to
notice. Get a torque wrench if you want to be extra cautious. I did mine
yesterday(no warranty though). Parts cost 20.00 at advance auto parts.
About 1-2 hours to clean and fix. I got a metal sandpaper to sand the
edges, and a 7mm deep socket.

I really appreciate that you took the time to film that man. Sorry you had
to break that one piece though..itz hard to find a mechanic you can trust
thankz to you I will be saving some money 🙂

Lonnie Johnson says:

Thanks a lot for making the video. I have a 2006 Focus that looks just like
Yours. I don’t want to void My warranty, but at 100 K miles on her, I want
to repair myself instead of paying Ford $264 bucks to change the Valve
Cover Gasket,

Oli Ver says:

Anyone could offer any advice on the problem I just lsted?

john iorio says:

nice tight job

robert swanson says:

I own an 05 focus , twin to yours…lol i just had to do the valve cover
gasket tonight. you video really helped me out. thank you for that…. 🙂

Robert Cortese says:

Great video. Very helpful. Thanks

howmon69 says:

So I went out today and bought some flexible gasket maker and plan to take
it apart again and put some around the rubber gasket to help it out a bit.
Even a small gasket leak is a vacuum leak. This can throw a P0171 (lean)
code. It can cause rough idle once the engine is warm….Or even cause it
to stall when coming to a stop. (very common with Focus’.

Oli Ver says:

Video was really helpful. My focus was slightly different. On the left side
of the valve cover, on top, I noticed that the housing of a fusible link
was on the way. Hwever, it was easy to remove. Now, I must say that my
valve cover was like 3 times worse than yours, all spark plugs had oil. I
used a syringe to remove the excess oil instead of letting it burn. Also, I
noticed that following the gasket replacement, my vehicle would have a low
RPM on idle, and would even stall on D gear.

jg20132013 says:

thanks for the vid, mine has the same problem, and i though it was gonna be
a lot harder than it actually is. great vid.

NathanielCatch says:

I am sort of experiencing the same problem. It only stalls when it’s really
cold. I think that the engines just get tired. It may be a fuel pump,
filter issue but I have no idea since there isn’t a check engine light on.
Have you checked forums?

29kalel says:

Thank you sir. I was gonna have ford do this. I can myself

Look on my channel…I just made a video that shows the 2.0L in my 2003
Focus. The engine looks quite different than yours. I only had this car for
about 3 weeks now, maybe its just the different years. I’m sure someone
knows more than me about it. My egr valve in the video turned out to be
fine after I got it off and tested it. I also re-did my valve cover today
with the gasket maker, it should seal up much better now. More vids to come
soon.
