Nice job…i have the same problem with my Punto

Alan Williams says:

Dont forget to check the emissions control pipe that runs from the back of the inlet manifold as these are prone to cracking or splitting and really give you a nasty uneven idle.

Steve dkp says:

hi i have a fiesta .1.2. wich keeps over reving when i pull up any 1 got any ideas. also woad you be abel to send me the link on ebay for the idel control vavles as i am thinking it may be that?

german sheperd says:

sounds like its the air flow meter located on the air intake just before the air filter

capristuntman says:

Hi Mate. my mk6 1.8 si cabriolet is over fueling the plugs were soaked in petrol. It ticks over fine once warm with a slight fluctuation in revs not major. Various forums say the icv can cause the over fuel problem what do you reckon ? If you can message me the ebay link i haven`t got nothing to lose in trying especially at that price, my local parts supplier quoted £60.

I have a 2000 escort sedan. It doesn’t have an rpm gauge on the dash but im guessing that it idled at a low rpm then i gave it a little gas then it just turned off. Tried to start it back up and nothing. Could this be the same problem?

B3NN10N says:

thanks bud! Nothing I hate more than head scratching trying to solve a problem!

Michael Andersen says:

Great video mate, thanks a lot. Really helped me locate and replacing the ICV of my Escort ’98. Cheers from Denmark

Zanomatt says:

I think yours is the only video on the whole internet on where this bugger is…Crickey! Cheers from the States…I never thought about taking off the throttle body!

B3NN10N says:

Hi, 4000 seems very high but any fluctuation in revs and I would replace the ICV. Have a look at my video showing this revving up and down and see if it is similar. I think I called the video how to diagnose icv or alternatively send me a private message and I will send you the video. This is a very common problem on the escorts so I am surprised the mechanic hasnt replaced it.

BABY' DAN BAGSHIT says:

Hi there. My escort ticks over like crap and when I rev it.
It revs to around 4.000 rpm and drops. Then picks up again.
Also I have a loss of power.

I have replaced the cat and sensor and full exhaust. Coil pack, Plugs, Leads, Had a new timing belt so the timing is ok.
And still I have the same problem. And no one knows what it is.

Would this be the idle control valve.
Cheers
DANIELLA

Scottwillow1 says:

I’ve just ordered one so I’ll let u know how I get on.

B3NN10N says:

The one i got off ebay is still working a treat (5 months, 10K miles later) so dont buy genuine at over 100 pounds. set aside 4 hours and you should hopefully be done in 2-3 hours. It’s not a hard job in terms of knowledge, just awkquard as hell as you have very litte room to work. I teach chemistry and managed to do it so most non-mechanics should be fine with a little patience.

Scottwillow1 says:

Excellent video mate. Was it a couple of hours to do? My 1.8 Si escort is doin the same and it’s driving me crazy. I’m a total novice at the mechanical side so I’m not too confident I can do it.

anyatn says:

Hi. Thanks for your help. Well I ended up getting a diagnostics test and it’s code P0107 map sensor. I bought a second hand one and the erratic idling has improved. Only now when I come to a stop the revs shoot up to 3000 and slowly drop with idling at about 1200. Driving me mad now!

B3NN10N says:

Its rare but sometimes the ICV is bad from the start also! I had that once with a brand new one. Worth a thought….

B3NN10N says:

Lambda sensor would be my next port-of-call. Pull it out of the downpipe and clean up with lots of wd40 and see if it makes a difference. They get coked up over time. Failing that I would do a full service – plugs and points and if that didnt cure it then I would get it put on diagnostics and fault coded.

anyatn says:

Hi. I’ve followed your instructions to change my ICV on my mk4 fiesta. All appears OK just the idling is sitting still, fluctuates from 800-1200. I left the battery disconnected for 2 hours and had a 10 min nice drive. Do you think it I should try cleaning the air sensor next and how is this best done? Many thanks 🙂

ok, send me, thank you!
