How To Replace a Clicking Ford Fiesta ST Blend Door Actuator

Recently my Fiesta started making a clicking noise in the dash every time I started the car. As it turns out, this is a common problem with modern Ford and the culprit is the HVAC blend door motor. Apparently the gears within the motor get stripped and what you’re hearing is them binding up as they move. Well today I’m going to show you how to fix it.

Big thanks to George De La Torre for tipping me of on the easier method!

Hey there! Thanks for the video! After installing my AC doesn't blow from main nozzles and just from the windshield ones. Any ideas on what might happened?

Green3Eagle says:

My Fiesta is now 5 years old and this part has broken twice; first time under warranty, last time over $1,000 for the dealership to fix. You would think for a known problem Ford would have a better part to replace this with.

MarieAnn Grasso says:

My question is if you don't mind the annoying clicking will it be harmful to the car over time?

USS Random says:

Thank you so much for making this video! Did the new Accuator ever fail after you installed it?

Josiah Colegrove says:

Just got a 2017 Fiesta ST a few hours ago, heard this sound and knew almost exactly what it could've been. So I'm glad this video exists

Ben Sonnek says:

Perfect video short and sweet. Thanks for the tips on replacing!

Monte Wilhelm says:

Isn't there more than one motor in the climate system? Mine seems to make the noise when switching from heat to defrost etc.

Robert Karroll says:

Hey brother video was a big help on my 2015 FIest ST. I actually watched a video on why these fail, and it said on these newer style Blend Door Actuators the gears don't break, but mine had three broken teeth on the big gear.

Johnny Rivera says:

Ford quoted me 505.99!

Donald Carter says:

The bad part is that there are 3 on the car. the one you changed, one behind the glove box and one buried behind the middle of the dash by the firewall. I have had to change 6 so far.

Mister Chuck says:

Thank you very much!!!!

Scott Barnett says:

wouldn't have done this without your video. thanks! NEVERY buy a Ford Fiesta people!

zak says:

Thanks for this video! My defrost vents aren't blowing air. I'm not getting that crazy sound, though. So I'm not sure if it's my blend door actuator. Do you have any suggestions?

Jordan Bailey says:

I am glad I found this! My partners car has been doing this off an on, definitely will try this fix

Geoff Knapp says:

Just want to add to the comments and say thanks. My 2014 ST has been doing it for over a year, and I was avoiding fixing it. This video convinced me to try it myself and have to say it went exactly like the video. Would highly recommend a similar small ratchet. And for hand loosing the end, and tightening at the beginning, I would suggest using a T25 bit by hand – way easier then trying to turn the screw head. I can't thank you enough!

Lisa Plylar says:

Does this make the ac stop working?

John Cooper says:
