There may be a rod or a cable in the door that has come undone from the

Once you have the door panel off how do you get to the mechanism that runs
from the handle to the latch on the door. My 2000 Focus drivers side door
will not open from the out side if it has been locked regardless if I
unlock it using the key (you can actually see the locking switch move from
locked to unlocked when using the key.) My door will open only if my
drivers side stays unlocked.
I’m trying to get at my door latch mechanism on my 04 focus. Drivers side
as well. So start by removing the panel as you’ve show. Then the mechanism
is behind the door insulation? Are they difficult to remove and reinstall?

You should be able to access is once you remove the door panel. There
should either be a rivet or a bolt holding it in place. Hope this helps you

Yes remove the door panel. If it’s an issue where you can’t open the door,
once the door panel is off you should be able to reach inside the door and
pull the rod (or cable) to pop the door open. Hope this helps you out.
