If it’s cracked pretty good you may want to replace the fuel filler neck. We carry new ones on our website Part Number: 1AFMX00073 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
Hi Mike I have a 1990 Dakota that had a bad fuel I dropped the tank instead of lifting the bed. I was by myself. When I went to put in back in I pulled the actual filler hose going into the tank an broke the seal. At the the front of the tank. Do i need to completely buy a new filler tube an install. Or is there something I can put on it like J/B weld. I only paid 500.00 for the truck. I do not want to turn it into 1000.00 I do not want to keep i. Will this also cause stalling an rough idling
If it’s some type of clamp (like in this video), you may need to cut it off and replace it.
my 1996 for explorer has these almost cups with plastic rings in them and no matter how much i twist and pry and pull they wont come loose how could i get these cups and rings off? in order to replace my gas tank?
Usually if you grab fold of the hose and twist the old filler neck (as we had to do in the video) It’ll break free for you. Can be a little stubborn at times.
This video failed to detail the grueling two hours spent twisting and pulling on the rusted filler neck before it actually comes apart. I found it necessary to use a pair of radiator hose pick tools (p/n 96572 at harborfreight at $4 ea.) Carefully shove this tool and/or a scratch awl between the hose and the barbed pipe to unstick the clamped area of the hose from the filler neck. Shove in 2 of these picks at the same time to spread the hose while pulling and twisting the fuel filler neck out.
Great video… Just installed the filler neck on a 2000 caravan basically the same instructions… Thanks for the help
That’s the filler hose that connects to the tank, to fill the truck up.
what is the rubber looking tube attatched to the end of the fuel tank filler, mine is cut.
My filler neck has a small wire bolted to it. It’s broken, so I can’t tell what it attached to on the other end. Is this some sort grounding wire or something? Why do I need it?
its a good idea to stuff a rag into the neck to avoid dropping screws in there
FYI the 02 Explorer XLT is a different fuel filler and a completly different install. The vapor tube up the side is one piece with filler neck and connects to top of the gas tank
Thank you for posting — never seen this done before. I didn’t know there were two tubes — presumably to allow trapped air to escape while fueling up, for more efficient filing.
