How to Install a Torque Converter on a Ford 4R100/E4OD Automatic Transmission

In this segment Curt shows us How to Install a Torque Converter on a Ford 4R100/E4OD Automatic Transmission . After doing an inspection of the converter, put a quart or two of ATF to the converter to prevent a dry start. Lubricate the hub with some trans gel, this will help with installing the converter into the transmission. When you go to install the transmission make sure to push in and turn it clockwise and listen for three clucks to make sure it is in all the way. Finally, when bolting the transmission to your engine, make sure the converter is still able to spin. Start both sides of the bell housing to the engine and switch back and forth until it is tight. This will tighten the transmission to the engine evenly and prevent breaking the case or pinching the converter.

Re says:

Does anyone know if you change your gear ratio on your truck should you install a torque converter with a different stall speed or does it affect your torque converter at all

CrimsonStang says:

I had the threads through my flexplate and everything appeared straight and the trans was aligned with the engine but whenever I would tighten (left, right alternating) the housing bolts, the converter would lock up.

So you said on Diesel applications its a 6 stud. I have a 2000 Ford Lightning with the 4r100. Does that take a 4 stud torque need a new one but i have no idea which one to get, especially being in Germany where parts are hard to get and noone has a clue about these cars/trucks.
So… 4 stud? Maybe you even got a partnumber? That you so so much in advance!! -Max
