How to: Install a subwoofer and amplifier in your vehicle – part 1 of 2

In this video I explain where all the wires go, how the amp works, how to mount the amp and how to run the wires. This video is meant to be a basic guide and…

Billy Bob says:

Actually a subwoofer is usually larger than a woofer and has a lower
range, woofers and like midbass speakers and they are meant for around 80hz
all the way up to 12000hz

Billy Bob says:

It’s also a good idea to not bundle up your extra speaker wire, it can melt
easier and short out with high power and it adds more resistance

joey mastroluca says:

That’s a distribution block man lol. O looking connector lmao. I hope you
aint leaving that shit hooked up like that. where is your O ring connector
on the battery? Thats a shitty way to connect it like you did.Thats a
pretty fukin big fuse for that amp lol.How many amps is it? Gota love the
way u bunched up them rca cables at the amp. I hope thats your car and u
didnt charge someone for that fucked up job. But its guys like u that have
made me thousands of dollars re doing yer fucked up installs. Thanks awlot
bro lmao

RealGraffz says:

hey dude i tried installing my subs and amp today, and i got everything
like you have it, power, ground, remote, subs etc, but when i connect the
rca’s to the amp, he green light starts flashig red and green, and when it
turns green for like 2 sec the subs work than they stop working when the
red one come on, what would be the problem to mine?

william Landreth says:

Use a better rca brand…

Stayin1up says:

You sound like Jesse on the first Fast and Furious! Nice vid bruthah!

Demonic Renigade says:

tose washer looking thingys are called eyelets.

SA Bjork says:

Nice video, I used it to install my 1000 watt Sub-amp. Question: I like
that fuse set-up in the engine compartment however, what Amp fuse are you
using? What Amperage do you suggest? No-one gives this information. I used
a 100amp fuse and fused it through a spare bay in the OEM fusebox. I don’t
know if its too much or not enough.

Zetes GFX says:

your video made me think of pedophiles the entire time. don’t do how to
videos ever

preston Anderson says:

Lol

Bryce Stepro says:

the wooooooofer

oscar rios says:

One more why are you placing the negative under a screw? Don’t u suppose to
use the chassis for that?

Ryan Bryson says:

He’s so stoned right now…

norm ogaard says:

When you make a video make sure you know what the hell your talking about.
if these people watching this don’t know the basics then you will just fuck
them up worse.
Woofers are TOTALLY different speakers then subs.
And the power blocks cause Noise don’t ever use them.

cody LaRue says:

If you don’t run the red power wire and the remote wire on opposite sides
of the car you can get interference and that can cause noise throughout the
speakers and subs.

Mohamed Ali says:

Very helpful. Thanks man

Roy Tolliver says:

Shows nothing on how to install. Your shit is already installed

Timmy Pontius says:

what gauge power wire would i need for a 1100watt amp

oscar rios says:

I have a few questions for you dude
#1 why isn’t the negative thicker than the positive?
#2 why are you using a distribution block with a 4 gauge run to run even
thinner runs of power wire?
#3 why is there another thin wire running out of the fuse block doesn’t it
need to be separately fused?
#4 why are you running the RCA’s together with the power wire when you can
get power radiation noise?
#5 why would you cut the RcA cables to run a HI-FI signal to the amp?
And

#6 Why are you running such a thin speaker wire to the subs?

frylockthefryman says:

The amp I had when I made this video was an old Alpine amp that was 100
watts x 2 channels at 4 ohms.

Christian Sarmienta says:

im in oregon too and have a 1995 jeep laredo wanna help me and detachible

frylockthefryman says:

You might be best off to have the 4 channel amp dedicated to powering the
speakers and have a separate amp dedicated to powering the subwoofer.

Michael Hall says:

Where did you get the switch for the remote wire? Like walmart or something?

frylockthefryman says:

If it has a place to insert a fuse then yes but the main fuse still needs
to be as close to the battery as possible to avoid shorting out the 12v
wire that’s on the non-fused side of the wire.

matt bull says:

no there should be rca jacks on your head unit use those to the rca jacks
on the amp!!!

EatATomahawk says:

Thanks!

frylockthefryman says:

If you look at the yellow wire you will see a little black box attached to
it. That black box is an inline fuse holder which has a 30 amp standard
size blade fuse in it. I just attached it to the amp’s fuse because it
seemed like a convenient place to tap into.

NewGunzSociety says:

Great video, watched both parts, but where can I get the fuse for the line
to the battery? Please respond ASAP, thanks.

TheCth777 says:

If my head unit has 4 channels and i have four door speakers, if i wanted
to add a sub and an amp for the sub would i need a head with another
channel? Thanks

frylockthefryman says:

I don’t really do installs, I was just giving the price I would probably
charge if I did. I really don’t like working on other people’s cars, too
much pressure lol.

2013ebruggeman says:

cut your wires down, they are way too long

Shade Graffiti says:

If my car has the battery in the back, it should be fairly easy right?

Tom Hanrahan says:

Clarified some things up for me. Thanks for taking the time to upload this.

dirtbiker2244 says:

Another thing to remember about running the RCAs through the car. Run the
wires opposite to the side of the power wires on the car. This will prevent
a lot of feedback and other noise. Good video

frylockthefryman says:

Thanks!

philthy bass says:

Why would you need it?

Kristoffer Sampson says:

Why are you using 8ga wire to 10ga wire for 2 subs to an amplifier. You not
getting the full amount of power from the amp. You should be goingvfrom 4ga
to 8ga.

iLoveMus1c334 says:

This is not helping at all. There is so much information that is is just
confusing people more. Try a step by step video next time, and work on your
downy bear sounding voice.

frylockthefryman says:

You can find switches like mine at autoparts stores or online. Wal Mart may
carry them as well.

elitecssplayer says:

and me as well, I have a 97 ZJ lol.

frylockthefryman says:

Yea, you should scrape the paint off so the ground wire can make a good
connection. If that doesn’t fix the problem it could possibly be the input
for the amp….if you use RCA cables they may be damaged.

frylockthefryman says:

Yes, you can have an amp and subwoofer without having to rewire your
speakers. That’s what I did in my car, I didn’t want to go through the
trouble of having 2 amps and rewiring my speakers either haha.

frylockthefryman says:

If the battery terminal clamp has bolts in it then you can just loosen the
bolts, slide the amp power cable in there and the tighten the bolts back
up. If not then you can attach a ring terminal to the amp’s power wire and
then just attach the ring terminal to the bolt that is used to tighten the
battery terminal clamp to the battery. Don’t worry about being
inexperienced, we all were at some point and we all still have things to
learn. Just have research what you’re trying to do and try.

frylockthefryman says:

Yes, it matters. You can calculate how thick of wire you need judging by
how many watts your amp puts out to the subwoofer. Normally 10 AWG would be
thick enough for most subwoofers, probably even thicker than what you need.

frylockthefryman says:

All the amps I have ever seen either have a terminal with a screw that you
pinch the remote wire between or they have a little clamp you open to put
the wire in there. Unfortunately I’ve never seen a remote input that looks
like what you’re describing.
