Critical you check your own vehicle – just follow the above VT
If you break down on the side of the road – it can cost you money both in time, repair bills and parts.

This simple check and easy replacement is a job that really anyone can do.
ensure the engine coolant is COLD before any work on the coolant system on any vehicle is carried out.
Car worked on is a FORD – 43K miles – purchased brand new & dealer serviced – but they never spotted this.
If this was left would end up with zero coolant & a seized engine !
If you have any doubts about doing it yourself ask a someone who knows about cars.
The whole point to this VT – to to make you aware that Plastic parts in an engine bay – will not last !
We hope this helps someone out there too – it made us aware of this problem that can occur even to a vehicle that’s 2 or 3 years old.
.
My 2012 Focus (USA) has a leak in the original coolant reservoir. It made it almost 12 years before it started leaking. We get tempertures down to -40 F here in NE Ohio, and as high as 100 F. I would be surprised if yours lasted less. I don't know why that would be. Mine cracked in the exact same spot.
Does it leak antifreeze even when you had the engine off? Or not? Im trying to figure it out. Since im having a leak but only when it comes to warm my truck happens. And when i drive it. I being changing hoses but the problem still there.
It's nice to know at least one genuine Ford part is reasonably priced.
It seems as the plastic hits the metal part on the right and beneath. Probably due to vibrations. Maybe to put some sponge in the place to protect the plastic?
"Brand new from Ford, 12 quid."
Man, I wish. Here in the US it's 54 quid, converted.
Mechanics are such a rip offs. Great video
Hi, thanks for the video. I have a question is this normal for coolant coming back from the top right pipe in the coolent box. I am from India and using ecosport 2015 automatic patrol.
Where is the radiator where you pour water in or is it just the reservoir
I had to replace a motor mount due to rot because my coolant bottle leaked.
2:16 thank you
Whats the two hoses on the top for ?.
Thank you very much mate… I had already booked my vehicle in for an inspection after the coolant running out… I did refill it but after a 7 mile drive it was empty again… I traced all the pipes and even on the resivior itself along with the cap but I couldn't find any signs of a leak… after watching this video I took the expansion tank off and to my surprise there was a very small crack! No more than 1cm long… I bought a new tank for £22 from ford and fitted it in under 10 minutes thanks to your tutorial… in total I saved £150 for the inspection + labour… legend
Same crack on the tank
what if it's not a tank problem, but the coolant still decreases, what should I pay attention to?
Did this and that holes in the front to my left watching this is leaking. Would you happen to know what's going on with that? It's dripping alot
I wish mine was this simple but no the water outlet broke and leaked all the coolant out the drivers side of the engine, not the tank. Ford wants $1400 to fix.
12 quid that's a surprise
hello their without your input(video)us car dopey people wouldnt have a clue thank you very much,oh also from where did you buy the bottle from PLEASE….
I think this has hapened to my reourvoir going to have a look tomorrow
Hello, thank you so much I was wondering how to do this and came a longer video can you post a link for that part please?
Hi I’ve got the same problem. Did you buy it directly from fords?
Going to give this a crack myself, the tank has been leaking loads, I bought the car 2nd hand at 92k miles so I bet there is the problem of the tank being cracked. I just saw part two of your video and am wondering if I may have the same problem with the heaters as well. Quick question – why didn't you just use your old cap why did you buy a new one? Will let you know how I get on.
From Pace Florida U.S.A.
Quite a good video. It's very explainatory with great tips. Well done!
I thought the 1.5 ecoboost lost coolant mainly due to the faulty block/gasket design, I didn't know about the reservoir issue
