Eric my engine will not keep an idle? I have to constantly give it little
gas to keep it from dying. What would you recommend??
Thanks

Dige Eric says:

When I spray around my intake manifold gaskets and o rings for my fuel
injector, the engine shakes and sounds like it’s close to being shut off.
Is this a symptom of a leak? 1zzfe Celica gt for reference. I replaced the
gasket a few months ago and the fuel injectors with new o rings. The car
hesitates on acceleration and throws a p0171 lean code.

Johnny Samara says:

I was listening to Beethoven: Pathetique Sonata Op.13 when at the end of
the video I was given a choice between Chopin’s Pathetique, Listz’ Piano
Sonata, or this freaking video.
What the hell was that about?!

joeman543 says:

So why do you need a hose with the propane tank? I understand it makes it
easier to direct the propane but is there any necessity to the hose?

lexhus says:

How do i find it if my RPM is already jumping around?
It changes constantly, how do i know it changed because of me spraying when
my rpm is already jumping constantly?

Porter Moss says:

Eric, What state are you located in. The cars I see you working on look
like hell. LOL
P.S. I really like your videos. Thanks for all the vids. I use your
technics a lot to teach Soldiers certain things in Maintenance and
troubleshooting.

Would brakleen work just as good as carb cleaner ?

Jerry Arpaio says:

i have gas smell very strong in my oil and the car is running VERY rich, is
it possible that a simple vacuum leak could cause gas in my oil?

gampon63 says:

My cruise control wont turn on, it this because of vacuum leak?

Robert Pavelea says:

Can an air leak cause an IAC valve trouble code, or is that more towards
the coolant side of things? Of course, it could be the IAC valve,
connections, and even ECU.

Jeff Dishman says:

Eric the Car guy … Rocks… lol… always talking about my personal car
problems… And Ive never met him… But i SUBSCRIBED :)

Hello Eric. where are Flasher of Pickup F150 2001 triton 4.6L v8, WHERE.
Please.

ZeroGHome24 says:

Never use water to put out a fire in a hot engine, firstly you might crack
your engine block or you might damage electrical connections causing you
problems that might be hard to diagnose due to connections being rusty or
bad contacts.

Performance issues are a problem for many men.

BDK BDK says:

+EricTheCarGuy How can I tell if I have a vacuum leak for an AC? My AC is
blowing some out of the vent (on the dash) but mostly out of the floor
vent. Is there an easy way to find that? I drive a Jeep Grand Cherokee
(2006) and have a couple dealerships work on it and they haven’t been able
to fix it.

Also, good info (you picked up another subscriber!

You’re awesome man, this video helped me alot thanks

Harold Hawley says:

Eric, I have always used WD-40. Developed by NASA, it is harmless should it
be ingested by a human, and it doesn’t burn, and gives you same results as
the toxic stuff.

mitch2jzrz says:

HI, firstly great videos 🙂

Ok, so I have a vvti turbo’d supra and recently when idling especially when
the engine is warm the idle rpm will go really really high all by itself.
I’m talking from 600rpm to 5,000 rpm. Could a vac leak be causing my engine
revs when in neutral to all of a suddenly rise?

Kinda scares me the engine is doing this and I immediately have to shut it
off.
Thanks for your help and hope you can help shed some light on my cars
issue. btw – this car is uses a fly by wire

Manuel Vargas says:

Erick
I have 1994 Isuzu Trooper LS 3.2 just given to me it was sitting for quite
a while problem is that when you start it revs up to around 3,000 but very
slowly goes down to around 1,500 cold or hot. also its stays revving high
after you accelerate and take foot off gas pedal. Changed plugs recently
but still have problem.

Patrick Biron says:

Thank you, This may be the vacuum loss that effects my defrost- heat-
split heater malfunction.

etu keno says:

I have an idle problem.

Already replaced the idle valve on my S40 -96 2.0. But, as I did the work,
I heard that hissing noise Eric was talking about in this video. Probably a
vacuum leak.

But I’m a huge novice in auto repair and the problem is I cannot tell where
to spray? Where are the hoses/tubes to spray into to find the problem?

photogyulai says:

Hey! Thanks for the video!
I wanted to try the propan method, but everywhere i see i saw a
propan!BUTAN! bottles. Usually 30%Propan and 70% Butan…. 999 bottles
from 1000 is propan and butan.
So this is what everybody call Propan or you have to search and buy JUST
propan bottle. Or this method is working with P/B bottles as well?!?
Thank you !

dirk windberg says:

Is it possible to use CO2 to find the vaccum leak if looking to an odb2
scanner and at long fuel trim and short fuel trim values ? If it sucks in
co2 in the vaccum leak it should modify these values ? Wouldnt it be safer
to do so ?
I am a bit afraid handling with burnable gas in the engine room to find my
vacuum leak. Its just an idea …

B Nagy says:

Disconnect MAF sensor, block intake, – if it doesnt stall there is a leak!
And you can hear the noise too… Safer, easier…

George Hart says:

how does one reset the ECU

yakama747 says:

Eric,
You are a natural on camera……….Kudos

EvilJ069 says:

I had a car that used to stall for seemingly no reason, but start right
back up. Turns out that it’s distributor had an internal coil and
controller chip. When the $5 chip starts to die, you have to replace the
entire distributor assembly… Irritating, AND expensive… $300+

I’ve got an 89 xr7 supercharger 3.8L V6 5speed manual. I read on the carb
cleaner cans that you’re not supposed to use them on SC or
turbochargers…..what else do I use that won’t hurt the sc intake? M90
Eaton supercharger

I have a 1993 mustang, issues:Car starts and runs but after 10-15 of warm
up and when i step on the gas, car does not rev like it should. I have
36lb injectors, pms stage 2 controller(engine is a 306 with all the goodies
save for n20). Do i have a vaccuum leak? Many thanks. Am saving for a
stage 4 pms controller as i am hoping that this will solve my issue.
Please comment.

There is also a evap machine that pumps out smoke but for the home mechanic
this is the way to go

The engine isnt over heating. Its just leaking coolant what causes that

Joe Reyes says:

I found a leak in my 2000 grand am one of my injectors was leaking through
the gasket can that cause a stall when i press on the gas it seemed to want
to turn off when i first step on the gas i am getting the gaskets later
today and ganna clean out the fuel injectors while im at it

Help me please

Bill Mader says:

Harold you are wrong. WD 40 was developed for use on jet engines to keep
them from corroding in storage. This did not work for the engineer, so he
developed it for home use. It is made from petroleum products and will harm
you.

Paul Wilkes says:

Is this method for petrol/gasoline only?
Does it work for a diesel?

Austin Murphy says:

Guys don’t worry, your car will not catch on fire from doing this. He is
only saying that to cover his ass in the freak occurrence that someone,
somehow, catches their car on fire.lol Just don’t spray the whole can on
your exhaust manifold or anything.

sidhucer00789 says:

Is it possible to use brake fluid cleaner?

Matthew Price says:

I use a squirt bottle with plain tap water in it. If the water is sucked
into the intake, the engine at least slows if not stalls. However, unlike
the flammable fluid test, it is better for the engine to be at normal
operating temperature when using water, since you will probably want to
crank it back up to verify your results. If the engine is cold, it may have
to spin a while before cranking after you’ve shot water into it. A warm
engine will usually restart without much trouble.

NOTE: On older engines, electrical components may not be water-tight. So,
try to avoid wetting any wires during the test. Accidentally causing a
short in an electrical component may give you the false impression that
you’ve found your vacuum leak. Again, if the engine is warm and you do wet
an electrical component, it will probably dry out faster and be ready to
restart.

by any chance do you live in cali?
