Question for you? i belive my tie rod is bent. iwas hit two weeks ago both
wheels are angled in and when i drove it home it was deffinitly pulling i
am expirencend enough to fix it my self but want to get opinions on the
fix. what should i replace the whole assembly drag link and both ends?
thanks for the help

SparkysGarage says:

Sounds like a faulty ground or loose/corroded battery cables. Check all the
wiring under the hood that you can. Thanks for the compliments!

Thanks for the advise. Everything seems in order down there, very
frustrating dilemma lol

SparkysGarage says:

There is an outer tie rod (what I replaced in the video) and an inner tie
rod (the longer part that goes to the steering rack). The inner tie rod
usually lasts much longer than the outer tie or a.k.a tie rod end. So you
should be good with just replacing the outer tie rod 🙂 Thanks! 🙂

@62ermaFF I would recommend replacing everything that you feel might of
been damaged. Then take it in for an alignment. It always a good idea to
have a vehicle professionally inspected if its in an accident like that
though. Thanks!

First, your videos are awesome and helpful. Second, i need some help. I
have a 98 F150 4.6L and sometimes when i hit potholes my dash lights all
come on for a second(check engine light ect) and then go off again like
nothing happened, my radio also shuts off and turns back on. I have no idea
what it could be, and my mechanic could not get the truck to act up while
he had it so has no idea either. If you have any ideas/theories i would
love to know. Thanks man.

SparkysGarage says:

Awesome! Glad I was able to help. Always a good idea to replace both sides
at the same time 🙂

@w00tplayaw00t Not sure what brand this one is but I prefer Moog parts.

in my experience, the tie rod will rarely “pop off” when you hit it with a
hammer. I highly recommend having a wedged pickle fork on hand. They’re
only like $5 and you will use them for other things too if you do your own
auto work.

What brand tie rod end did you get?

Lv2canoenMe says:

Thanks for the quick reply. I just bought two OEM outer tie rods ends for
$84 out the door. The originals have 122K miles on them so the drivers side
one will need replacement soon anyway. I figured if I was going to pay for
an alignment I might as well do BOTH at the same time. Thanks again for an
informative well done video !!!

I am not trying to be annoying or anything but you can visually look at the
after market tie rod and stock tie rod end and see there is a difference in
length half the time. Like line the bolt up that slides into your spindle
with each other and some times it 1/8 to half of a inch difference in
length and your alignment could be way out

Have to thank you for a great video on this. I’m not in a place where I can
afford to have someone else do this for me and I can’t tell you how much I
appreciate the knowledge on how to do this myself. Our truck is also a 2001
XLT two wheel drive. I’m going to buy a Genuine Ford part so when I put it
in it’ll be pretty close to being in proper alignment. Should I replace the
outer tie rod at the same time or is there even one to replace ?. Thanks so
much for the help !!!!
