I show how to install the battery master disconnect switch on the Ford Model A. This is a quick video of installing the disconnect switch, which can be purchased through Model A vendors… and some things to watch out for. Be sure when ordering… they sell the switch and a separate bracket – depending on how/where you want to mount the switch.

The disconnect switch is useful if your car’s battery gets run down over time, and instead of disconnecting the battery after each drive, the switch is handy. Also, if worried about a sticking starter/starter switch, the master disconnect will disconnect the power to the starter.

Another device to note is the fuse block (see my other video, “Installing the fuse block for the Model A”). This will protect your Model A from wiring shorts/overloads. The fuse can also be removed as a safety device if your battery continues to run down…. or while working on your Model A electrical system.
Also note from Rick B.:
“Instead of a fuse, use a 20a circuit breaker, which automatically resets if it “blows”
and it’s square shape makes it easier to install or remove from the fuse block.
Just remove the fuse when you park your car and the only part of the engine
with power is the starter. No lights, no horn, and no ignition.”

Also can be used as a security device, or just a safety precaution at car shows – if someone accidentally presses the starter pedal.
