Back 3 are the most fun. Front 3 plugs are not too bad. Yea, not an easy
vehicle to work on, but certainly not the worst that I have worked on.

did you see where are the spark plug ? The escape is not built to be easy
to repair.

You can take it out either way. If you disconnect cables/hoses shouldn’t
have any issues pulling it out via the firewall. There are other issues and
complications either way – taking the axle out or taking it out by the way
I demonstrated.

I was shocked at how bad the alternator was in this truck. It only had 87K?
on it when it went. I thought for sure it was the battery, but the battery
tested out ok. It’s not a fun job. I only did it because I could afford to
pay someone to do it lol.

Remove the axle, way easier! Disconnect tie rod and steer wheels to the
right so tie rod is all the way in, undo axle nut, lower ball joint pinch
bolt, push control arm down, move knuckle to the side. tap on axle and it
will pop right out. Remove plastic cover from alternator. Remove 2 bolt
from inner axle stub support and pull stub out. Now you are ready for the
hard part, removing the alternator upper stud and plastic cover. Removing
the axle gives you a lot more room to work.

hey alexander i have a 03 ford escape v6 with 135000 on it my alternator
just went out last week i just got in from working on it for hours i dont
have the best tools and i have big hands lol i got the bolts off i dont
know which way im gonna take it out from any advice thanks

Wow even something so simple could end up taking a day. I love my f150 but
man do I get depressed doing some simple jobs on it. Can’t wait till it
hits the 20 year mark and then I can scrap all electronics and put my
engine of choice in lol

In our 2002 V6 Tribute the original battery and alternator lasted 7.5
years, then both failed. Had the battery replaced at Sears and they gave me
the bad news that the alternator was not charging at idle. Had the dealer
replace the alternator the next day. Both failed again 51 weeks later. As
it was less than a year both the 2nd new battery and alternator were
replaced for free by Sears and the dealer and the car has been fine for
almost 3 years since. Nice video, but that job is not for me

Its easier to take out the drive axle and is the best way to replace the
alternator. The way you did it by removing the intake is for the wanna be
grease chimp. I can’t even make sense of doing it your way. My head hurts
just trying to see how intake removal make it easier.o_O

I actually have to agree with Charlie….just changed mine on a 2006 XLT
yesterday. Although a nuisance I think it is much easier taking out the
axel. To get the axel out you have to separate the ball joint and 2 nuts on
the bearing flange and the axel is out….it might look hard to take it
out, but it isn’t. It took me about 4 hours on my garage floor no hoist. I
do not recommend taking it out through the firewall. You run the risk of
damaging wires or hoses.

Hence your picture. If you have nothing useful to say, take a hike. You can
swap the alternator either way. Taking the axle out involves a lot more
work.

Yep, took me all day to change that darn alternator. Worst job I’ve ever
done lol
