+FordTechMakuloco, I have a ’00 that I thought had sagging rears. I
followed your steps and tested the connector, and the compressor kicked on.
I don’t have the proper equipment to test the two smaller wires, but I
think the relay works because when I turn the truck off, I can hear
clicking that sounds like the relay working. I started looking at the
height sensors, it looks like the rear one is extended, but the funny thing
is that the rear bags are full to the max. What do you think I should
check next?

Frankie Bee says:

I also have ’02 expid. Back end on both sides is LOW and Stiff, no bounce,
(pump goes on) I still drive it, besides coursing Damage to me and my back
and neck, can I course more damage to truck? What should the average total
cost be? Thanks.

Jesus Vazquez says:

My pump makes the same noise your makes.?????????? This means my pump is
broken internal!

Katie Jones says:

Hey My 2001 expedition has a saggy butt. The pump turns on but the back
wont come up at all. I have checked for leaks int he lines and found one in
the front at a t section i fixed it with no luck. I am starting to think
the bags have a hole in them somewhere. any other thoughts before i take
them off and replace them?

Kevin Murphy says:

I have a 2000 Ford Expedition with air ride and the Check suspension light
is on after driving for about a mile or so and stays on. The truck levels
off and as far as I can tell the compressor turns off after the truck is
level. Any suggestions?

VERGIN GALACTIC says:

Hello Sir. I have the same problem on my 2001 Ford Expedition. The back end
sagged everytime I park it overnight. I’m thingking I just need to replace
the air suspension relay? and sometimes even while I’m driving the back end
sagged. Is it ok to drive it even when the back end sagged? I suspect maybe
the airbags are leaking. I even thought about maybe puting a duct tape on
it for temporary only. Any suggestions? Please help. Thank you.

Bil Brunson says:

I HAVE A 2008 FORD EL EXPEDITION WITH REAR AIR RIDE. I REPLACED MY FRONT
SHOCKS/STRUTS AND NOW I BOUNCE GOING DOWN THE RAOD. THE COMPRESSOR SOUNDS
GOOD AND THE AIR BAGS FILL UP. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

wewex7 says:

I have a 2001 Lincoln Navigator 89,000 miles on it, how much would it cost
for me to change to 2 rear air Air Bags and Height Sensor? cost for me to
do it myself, and cost for dealer or mechanic to do it. Thanks

bldaz says:

I replaced the front 2 air shocks/bags last year and when its cold they
still dip down, passenger side even more. Thinking of getting a complete
compressor and dryer unit. Could it be just the dryer? Unit runs until
light on dash comes on then shut off when cold, wont stay up, when warm
over say 65 it works okay stays up.
Thanks

frankiejdm says:

My 1999 Ford Expedition 4.6 the compressor comes on every 5 minutes making
my battery become low,

OneBadAssDJ says:

So what happens if my air ride compressor doesn’t shut off at all? It seems
after I have been driving the truck for a while, then shut it off, i’ll
find out that an hour or even hours after, the compressor won’t turn off.
Still trying to level the truck out without the keys in the ignition. Wind
up killing the battery and I have to jump start it. While i’m driving the
pump with cycle on and off also. Any help would be great please.

cojail6424 says:

my tuck is the just example in this video. and alot of air is blowing out
the passenger side of the engine what can i do get that rear up.? and why
is all that air blowing out like that? (even with the hood down the blow is
powerful)

Bil Brunson says:

No air on front just rear. It an EL limited edition. I does not stop
bouncing when I take a bump. Feels like hydraulics are on rear. Almost as
if it’s over inflation.

Danny Rivera says:

HI GRETA VIDEO IT DID HELP ,JUST WONDERING WHEN CONNECTED TO A TRAILER DO I
RUN IT WITH THE SWITCH ON OR OFF.

brian lowmaster says:

2003 expedition, around freezing or lower the rear will not air up. this is
the only time of the year I have any problem with it. any help will be
appreciated.

Bil Brunson says:

Yes only rear.

brian lowmaster says:

finally got totally @*(&^ at it last night and tore it apart. the 03 eddie
is different than what I could find online. figured out where the relay is
and started testing, the first tee in line is leaking like crazy. going to
start with that one and work my way to the back. on the eddies the relay is
attached on the top front of the compressor, easy access to test. last year
I replaced the drier thinking that was it. ford dealers are no help on this
issue unless you want to spend boat loads of money. thanks and I will keep
you updated. your video has gave me the most info. Thanks!

Jim R says:

hello. Enjoyed your video.Problem: I tested the ground command from the air
suspension module with the test light as it appears at a bout the 6 minute
mark. It failed to light up the test light. The other tests you showed
passed. I figured the controls module was bad so I replaced it. Still no
luck. What else could it be please help. I also checked all the fuses,
replaced both ride height sensors and the back still sags.

dayspring68 says:

Thanks for the video. It was really easy to follow. I’m hoping you can help
me. I have a 2000 Navigator and the back end is down. I did all of the
troubleshooting you showed. Everything was good. I even saw the front end
rise when I used a jumper wire on the pigtail for the relay. I replaced the
relay but the compressor won’t run. I used a scan tool (actron CP9135 OBDII
Auto Scanner) and got a “pass” message. Any suggestions?

marcuslrobinson says:

hey bro. thanks for the vid. I have a question about my ford. the truck
drops when ever the truck is off and when I turn the truck on and close all
the doors it pumps up. but like I said if I go into the store when I come
out the rear end is sagging again. might it be the same problem as in this
video?

Mikey D says:

Great video. My 1998 Lincoln Navigator Air Suspension quit working and the
idiot light is on constantly on the instrument panel. All bags are
deflated. I did all the checks mentioned. The compressor works fine when I
jump across the two huge wires, and the middle ground wire all checked out
perfectly. I even replaced the relay even though it was not bad. My problem
is I get nothing on the 4th wire (Control Module). I did it exactly as
mentioned in the video and still nothing works. Where is the control module
locate on my 1998 Navigator? How difficult is it to diagnose and to
replace? I have a pretty good mechanics background, but have not be able to
locate the module; I think its under the dash somewhere. Oh, by the way,
the air suspension on/off switch checks out good too. What else can it be.
Chiltons and Haynes are clueless.

Thanks,
MikeyD

Ben Canfield says:

Hi ford tech again, I found the compressor, It knot like any in your video,
I can’t find the relay.Would you look at a 96 Lincoln wiring and tell me. I
hot wired the compressor and its runs. On the compressor a small box with a
green going in it. Ben Canfield. thanks.

Oscar Galarza says:

I have a 2003 Lin. Navi. I cannot find the relay. Supposedly it’s under
the passenger side above the fog light. Not there. Help please? I
understand it was moved late 2003 models.

Jam o says:

Have a 1994 Mark 8 My problem is the back is down and the pump wont turn on
Did 1st test jumpered big wires Pump works Used a motor from a kids
electric car to load test #3 ground terminal to #1 hot wire Motor worked
fine Used a multimeter to test terminal between 4 and terminal 1 12.2 volts
all is good Swapped relay with ABS relay from drivers side of car still
wont turn on the compressor Purchased a relay from a local auto yard on the
chance the ABS relay was bad Still the pump wont work Any other suggestions

Ben Canfield says:

Hi ford tech, 96 Lincoln town car, In the trunk there is a switch for air
ride on and off. What doze it mean I unplug the connector and its reads 12
volts on both wires. I think one hot and one knot hot right or wrong. Ben
Canfield.

MrRayRizo says:

Thanks for the video I have a question. I just replaced my air suspension
compressor and my bags air up but when I park and turn the navi off my bags
lose about half of the air in them. Do you have any suggestions as to what
this means?

fordinator says:

Great video. Question, ii have a 99 navigator here. The pump runs when
jumped the middle small wire works as ground. The end little wire doesn’t
ground. Cold this be bad connection or would this mean a larger problem.

marcuslrobinson says:

and of yeah bro. some times the truck doesn’t drop at all. and it’s fine.
But most times when the truck is off the rear end drops.

Rich Peck-lippsplitter says:

FordTechMakuloco- most informative media on the net! reattached the pigtail
to relay and jumped the fat wires- both failed. logic and as you stated its
the pump, direct power test and voila its alive however only front bags
inflated. rear bags hold air. havent heard the pump run normally. thinking
its the relay and pigtail? thanks again

money89tractors says:

dealing with an 03 expedition with air ride issues. it is a 4was setup.
compressor kicks on when manually jumped. but i have no constant ground and
no command on ground. a previous scan of the truck shows that one of the
front height sensors was faulty. could that one sensor being faulty cause
the system to not provide a command ground?

Also, on the constant ground: could i wire it to a ground on the body to
achive a constant ground for it? or is the constant ground controlled
somewhere else?

when i turn the pump on manually and let it run, the truck doesnt lift. if
i leave the on/off switch in the off position and manually turn the pump
on, the entire truck should raise correct?

thanks in advance.

Ethan Walsh says:

really great video man – thank you so much for sharing. going to try and
diagnose my kids Navigator tomorrow thanks to you!

MrRayRizo says:

OK well it has not done that before the old compressor went out but I think
I have a leak in their line because I can hear it we I park coming from the
area of The compressor

Ben Canfield says:

Thanks for your help. Ben Canfield

Omar De leon says:

I recently bought a 2000 lincoln navigator, so I’m pretty much unused to
the air ride system and its problems. A few days ago the rear bags just
stayed low, I didn’t notice the air pump/compressor functioning before but
everything was ok, 1st question, when is the air compressor supposed to
turn on? at the very first moment you turn on the ignition? Because the
only time I can listen to the compressor work (I think) is when truck is on
Drive, but still air springs are not being inflated, so it is pretty
difficult to check for leaks on ’em.

mrcartagena2000 says:

That did the Trick thank you as this video confirms my diagnostic measures
were proper

Smokeasammie says:

Thanks fore the vid.

doritobandito says:

My 2000 navigator is leaking Just line the one in this video from the left
rear side. What is it and how can I fix it

tommychonchonmon says:

Hi nice video. I did the tapping on the relay on the big 2 wires but it
didnt turn the compressor on it just “click”. Is that mean my compressor is
bad?? Thanks
