I have a 1991 Mustang 2.3L LX that is my daily driver. Thank you for your
video! I was walking out to the part store and decided to look at the noise
a second time. You saved me $40.00 and, priceless amounts of frustration.
Thank you again. I will be subscribing, keep up the good quality, and,
straight forward videos that you are producing.

I guess you are the man when it comes to diagnosing fords, I just uploaded
a video about issues I have with my f150 here is the link
http://youtu.be/ydji-YKycTs can you help me finding the ghost who lives in
my truck? thank you.

chevytech1965 says:

so wish i would have found this before i put my pump on

Mike Hall says:

So I have no idea what it could be, but I own a 2002 f150 4.6 L it just
started recently squeaking. Even after I start it and let it run for awhile
to warm up from the cold. Its squeals when I’m driving, it squeals when
it’s idling, the only time it’s not squealing is when then truck is off.
The way I can describe the noise to y’all is it sounds like you can
actually hear something turning. Very dry squeal. Really could use help
from y’all. Its starting to get really old and I’m going thru financial
trouble at the moment thanks

Good video. I replaced the two smooth idler pulleys on my 4.6 liter f150
and it helped greatly, but I still have some noise I believe it is either
the water pump pulley or the grooved pulley. According to the 2007
Ford-issued shop manual, the grooved pulley has the same part number as the
smooth pulley. Surely this is a misprint. Any idea where I could locate
the correct pulley? I’ve been looking on amazon and some parts sites and
am not having luck. Thanks!

patrick foreman says:

Thanks for the info, thought i needed power steering pump but tried this
first. Wallah bye bye noise, quick, easy, and cheap.

Greg Boyd says:

I’ve got a ’05 Freestar. The whine comes and goes and the engine will stall
when the idle gets low. Any suggestions?

g pof says:

Just picked up a 2002 Lincoln Continental, 4.6. Notice this same noise,
checked the PS(which I thought), checked fluid level, which was slightly
low, added Mercon ATF fluid, watched for leaks etc. and no problems. Caught
your vid and aha, that’s the exact noise. Youtube needs more of your type
of info instead of a lot of that useless crap. THANK YOU SIR!, this was
very helpful. I’ll be checking out more of your vid’s.

Ryan Corby says:

Having the typical pump whine on my 500. Have you seen this issue with the
pulley on that car as well? or would you suspect the pump? its an 06 500
Limited. Thanks!

Jonathan Duran says:

Could this be the problem on my 98 expedition with the 5.4 it has like a
harmnic hummin sound that sounds a little like a whistle and it will do it
either when you just start it up or when its rolling it will do it please
reply.

Jeremiah OBrien says:

Thought I’d share some more. My noise started only at startup. Then a few
months later I noticed it when driving. Finally started to hear it louder
and more consistent. Decided to do the idler and tension pulley. After
taking off the belt the idler seemed fine so I pulled the tensioner. Yup
that was it. Did not sound smooth and you could feel it when you spun it on
your finger. Replaced the tensioner pulley and now she sounds brand new
again!

MarcixB says:

Hey if you can let me know what you think is wrong with mine. I uploaded on
another profile but listen to that sound lol.
I’m beginning to think it’s the power steering pump because turning the
wheel makes it worse.

tensioning pulley and that did the trick.. Thanks, Joel

thanks!!

Fausto Padron says:

+FordTechMakuloco Hello I was wondering if there was a specific brand of
tensioner or idler that works best and where I can buy these parts? Thank
you in advance.

ronald durst says:

Great video! My truck sounds exactly like this! I’ll change everything out
this weekend.

By the way, your background music is awesome!

Benson Delva says:

I’m having similar issues on my 05 Mustang GT but mine sound more high
pitched, kinda like a twin screw supercharger during idle and as i drive.
it’s coming from one of the pullies from the drivers side.

Greg Boyd says:

Idle is steady until it bottoms out and stalls

Fausto Padron says:

+FordTechMakuloco where can I buy the parts at?

Metalman says:

Same thing happened here (thought I had a bad power steering pump)! I have
a 2004 5.4 F150…glad I watched this video. Getting the pulleys off was
easy (I have two in the same area, wasn’t sure at the time which one was
bad). After spinning both in my hands, it was apparent that the grooved one
was bad…I switched it out, and it sounds great! Thanks for posting this
video.

John Doe says:

That bearing sounds dry. On one car I had I had a tensioner failing but it
was not real noisy. In fact I did not know it was failing till the belt
also failed. After changing that tesnsioner and putting a new belt on, the
car was quieter. As I said, it was not that loud and so I never knew until
it was just about to fail. When it did finally fail, I just lost power
steering and whatever else. It wasn’t so bad just hard to steer and I had
to get home soon since having no alternator to keep the battery charged.
If you do decide to use belt dressing, be warned that on some vehicles it
will make a horrible noise depending on the type of belt you have. My dad
sprayed some on his ’03 Dodge Ram belt and it sounded really bad. If you
make that mistake you will know because everywhere you go they will be
holding their ears and cringing.

Fausto Padron says:

Can anyone tell me if there is a specific brand of idler or tensioners i
should buy and where i can get them? I would really appreciate it.

Dämmerung Gaming says:

I’m pretty sure my PSP is fine haven’t noticed any issues turning or what
not but I have this whime, I’ll check both the tensioner and the idler (if
its on there) and get back to see if you saved me a major headache

MiamiHeat Fan says:

my truck made the same noise. I replaced my PS fluid with mercon ATF fluid
and the wine is gone and makes zero noise.

Jeremiah OBrien says:

Had the same noise. Just replaced my tensioner pulley. All fixed now took
10 minutes.
