Andrew Roby says:

I’ve got an old Jeep with a cable driven gear. Before I pulled it out it
worked fine and the gear was snug with the housing/cable. Once I was done I
went to put it back together but the gear won’t click into place. It still
sits flush with the housing and I know it’s on the cable because it spins
the other end but as soon as any pressure is on the gear it just falls out.
Any ideas?

Good afternoon, my question is, my speedometer stop working (well only the
one that marks the speed and not the rpm) today and gears of the
transmission are stuck. The car feels forced. Could it be the speed sensor
, the input sensor or outputs sensor?? I have a 2003 dodge status coupe.
Its a 4 cylinder. Thanks!!!

Hi Scotty! My ’83 Mercedes 380SE has a speedo that works but jumps up after
driving a while. It’s annoying because I have to wait quite some time

Hi Scotty!
I really need your help.
I drove my car to a mechanic to get it’s ignition timing set.
When he pointed the timing gun at the mark, the mark was jumping all around
the place.
He has no clue what’s wrong with the car.
It acts pretty normal when the engine is cold , but once it’s warm it acts
like a wild horse at random times, i switch a gear (the correct gear,
manual trans), press on the gas and the car starts jerking back and forth
like crazy, as if i put it in a gear too high. It stalls almost every time
i put it in neutral (when driving at any speed), and when i stop at red
lights.
What can be wrong with it? I’ve taken it to like 5 different auto repair
places and ALL OF THEM have absolutely NO IDEA what is wrong..

Robert Padilla says:

Hi Scotty, thank you for all your advice. I recently purchased a 1996 Honda
Civic DX HB that came with a speedometer that jumps around and stays in
20mph position in most cases. what can I do to correct this problem? Any
advice would be greatly appreciated. Thx again

heymisterderp says:

Scotty, last year my ’94 Camry with 60,000 original miles got a check
engine light, it threw a Vehicle Speed Sensor code, and my overdrive went
out. A transmission specialist replaced the VSS, which didn’t solve the
problem, then took my dash out to some dash rebuilding co. and they
“replaced a few bad transistors and cleaned up the board” and that didn’t
fix the problem. Then they dropped the pan, inspected the transmission and
changed the fluid and that didn’t solve the problem. Then after a bunch of
electrical tests on solenoids etc. they installed a new ECU from a Lexus
ES300 which eventually made my car not start out in 1st gear anymore (shift
solenoid A was just one difference between the computers). And finally
they replaced my ECU with an exact matching computer and the problem went
away.
Until something got squirrelly a few months ago and I got a check engine
light again. The car’s run fine since then, it passed emissions last month
with flying colors, but now I notice that sometimes I get in my car and
turn the key and the speedometer says 10 or 15mph and I’m just sitting in
the car parked in the driveway! Yesterday I must have only been driving 35
mph and my speedometer was floating all the way up to 60mph. So I think
it’s progressively getting worse. Any ideas?

saf adff says:

Hey Scotty! I just changed my front break pads and rotors and then when I
take a test drive, the car suddenly shut off. When I turn the car on, the
odometer is not working. Can the my broken odometer cause by recent change
pads and rotors?

My 01 Tacoma’s speedo stays at 0 until I hit about 10 or so mph. Then it
works fine and shows the accurate speed. My truck has wider tires than what

the speedo? If so, how?

cpaniaguam says:

Hello Scotty, I made sure to read all 875 comments that had been posted on
this page up to this point to make sure my issue isn’t covered yet and I
believe it hasn’t. So here is the issue I am experiencing: 98 corolla,
check engine light on and got code P0500 (Vehicle Speed Sensor
Malfunction). Symptoms: car shifts to and fro second and third gear. When
it does this speedometer gets stuck at zero. But sometimes it goes back to
shift normally and the speedo goes back to work fine. This makes me think
that the sensor may not be bad but some connection to it. Also I can’t
locate the speed sensor on this car; it’s frustrating! What do you think
the problem is, and do you know where the sensor is located? Thank you very
much in advance!

Ed Roses says:

hey my truck stays a zero is it the speed sensor?

AFRODE516 says:

i have a 94 honda accord ex, the speedometer works about 25% of the time,
often on longer drives it’ll start to fire up, do i just need to replace
the sensor?

steve moua says:

Hello Scotty I have a 1997 honda accord lx automatic and the speedometer
works sometimes and sometimes it doesn’t. I use a code scanner to read it
and no codes comes up but, when i drive it shows my speed on the scanner,
but it doesn’t show my on dash. Could it be a wire problem? and if so how
do I fix it.

Bee Lee says:

hey scott, my speedometer stopped working on my 03 hyundai tiburon. After
watching your video, i would like to know which one of these, output or
input speed sensor controls the speedometer?

Phlaked Corn says:

Once on my old 95 explorer, the speedometer was all out of wack, it jumped
around and wasn’t close to the real speed. All I had to is put a new air
filter in it, problem solved. Though to this day I don’t know how these two
would be connected.

Larry Thompson says:

I had a Honda dealer replace the sensor on my 95 Honda civic si it still
did not work they told me it was the speedometer my speedometer worked when
I just started out in the morning but would go crazy and sometimes just die
and sometimes come back to life . I saw some mention of Gas caps affecting
the speedo so I spent 9 dollars on a new gas cap and it now seems to be
working why ?

Ignacio Rios says:

how do you fix the trip and Mileage odometer on a Honda accord ex?
