randy dan says:

repaired my odometer and calibrate the speedometer according to your
video,, they both work fine. thankd a lot

Rodney Formby says:

where did you get the odometer motor?

Ed Borton says:

Daren, Do you have anything on removing the upper cowl covers on a Ford
Explorer (1997)?

Johnnie Welborn, Jr. says:

Good info and well-presented. Found this after researching why my
odometer/trip odometer both are coming and going recently. I never opened
up the cluster when I had it out replacing bulbs (another of which went out
a couple of months later, of course lol). This gives me a far better
understanding of how they’re both driven (I’m used to my old 89 VW) and
what has most likely failed. Too easy – Thanks!

Dwayne Hooper says:

I have a 1996 Ford Explorer,I followed your video and the worm gear was
falling apart. I changed a few bulbs that was blown out and put everything
back together took my truck for a ride and odometer or the trip meter still
doesn’t work. I was wondering could it be the motor that is bad as well and
is there a way to see if it the motor?

wwjoshdew says:

Sweet! This is awesome! I just need to replace the lights in the dash. lol

Daren Reichle says:

Its possible that you pushed it on too far, and its rubbing as it falls.
You might try adjusting it out some.

jove Kings says:

so i need a little plastic piece or do i need the plactice piece and the
little motor

Daren Reichle says:

@wwjoshdew haha yeah. as soon as i get off work today i am going to do the
rest of it. i will try to post that video tonight. thanks!

dirtscootbeast says:

so the worm gear wearing is what caused the speedo to stop working?

Daren Reichle says:

You have to pull the cluster from the dash. Thats the only way. Watch my
other video. It will show you how to pull the cluster.

Daren Reichle says:

Hey, I added the link to the new video. It pops up right around the 2:22
mark.

warpspeed1988 says:

So did this actually solve your problem with the speedometer working at
random? Mine has been doing it as of late, and would like to get it fixed.
Also wanted to know if that new gear was worth the money spent.

69getsyouelected says:

How do you check the speedometer’s accuracy when it’s not connected to the
vehicle? I’m told that the speedometer is calibrated useing a dynamoneter.

jsuani1 says:

thank you. very informative.

Daren Reichle says:

Yes it fixed my problem. It only works at random because the original gear
was so broken down and brittle that it would catch at random times and work
for a while. Its up to you if you want to fix it. It bugged me that my
odometer quit working, and it gave me a reason to tinker with my truck.
Totally up to you if you want to spend the $30 on the gear. I believe the
link to where I got mine is in the description.

Michael Doran says:

My speedometer only comes down to 40 and says I’m doing 70 when I know I’m
not. Any suggestions? Is the needle possibly down to far?

Daren Reichle says:

I don’t really know how to explain how it meshes with the other gear. It
just does. It just pushes onto the pin. You’ll see what the old gear looks
like when you pull it off. Its honestly not that hard.

robert knotts says:

where did you get theworm gear to fix the odometer 95 ford ranger

wwjoshdew says:

Sweet! I’m going to watch this bad boy!

dirtscootbeast says:

odometer*

Daniel Garcia says:

hey bro can you tell me if theres a way to change or reduce the mileage on
the odometer the non digital, mines are way high up to 597K and i dont
think thats even possible?

Daren Reichle says:

Yes. When I pulled my old worm gear out, it broke into several pieces. It
was already brittle and had chunks missing out of it. Thats why my odometer
would work sometimes and not others. It would just so happen to catch a
good spot on the worm gear, and work for a little while.

Daren Reichle says:

Yes you can, but its unlawful to change your speedometer. I apologize for
any inconvenience.

ricsrustyrecords says:

You were right we had pushed the needle down too far & it was making it act
wacky. Thanks a lot for these very useful videos.

AhPhoey says:

Oh ok. Thanks for all your help.

Brian Mc Donnell says:

You dont have to pull the whole thing apart. The odometer motor twists out
from the back and you can put the new gear on. Use 2 credit cards to gap
the distance from the motor to the back of the new gear. By gaping it this
way, the gear doesnt touch the speedometer back plate. It worked great for
me.

AhPhoey says:

You didn’t show how to replace the worm gear in the video. That’s the main
part that everyone needs info on.

Daren Reichle says:

Lol, what more do you want? I showed exactly how to get to it and where its
located. I did everything short of coming to your garage and doing it for
you. Watch the other videos. Maybe that’s what your missing?

Daren Reichle says:

Just the plastic piece. The motor should still be good. If its not, just
run to the junk yard and pull one out of a truck there.

Daren Reichle says:

Check out the description. I just posted the link for you.

ricsrustyrecords says:

This worked with my 1996 Ranger, but now I have a problem with the
speedometer needle returning very slow when I stop. Any suggestions?

AhPhoey says:

For example, does a person just simply drop the worm gear down on the pin?
Does it attach somewhere or just fits down on the pin? How does it mesh
into the main gear? Maybe its easier than I think when I actually do it.

Pomdudes says:

Good, informative video. (also the one on opening up the dash) I did it
today and it was stunningly easy.

Daren Reichle says:

I will post another video here shortly about how to check the speedo.

J. Muller says:

How do you get to the 7 screws ?

Daren Reichle says:

Thanks! You’re welcome

Daren Reichle says:

@pomdudes Great! Im glad I could help you out!
