Scotty, I’m having trouble with my Escort. It started misfiring when I went
to climb on the freeway last week and the check engine light came on. Ever
since I’ve replaced the spark plugs, spark plug wires, fuel injectors,
intake manifold gaskets, cleaned the air filter and even smoked it to check
for a vacuum leak and nothing seems to make it better. What else could the
problem be? The car is shaking and sputtering like crazy and barely has any
power, especially in higher rpms.

Darrin Goldman says:

Scotty, I am having trouble with a 1997 Jetta. It misfires when wet. The
ignition coil, wires, distributor cap, and plugs were changed. It is only
after a rain that there is a problem. After the car is warmed up,
it is fine. Any ideas on how to fix? Thanks! Darrin

Roman Grumberg says:

Hi Scotty ! I’m your fan.
I have a 1999 mazda protege 1.6 with old 17 pin diagnostic socket under
the hood ( european version maybe.. in US you have obd2 from 1996) I
checked its dtc with wire and led tester because I can’t use standard obd2
scanner tool, it shows me 52 and 63 and the same again and again.. do you
familiar with old trouble codes? can’t find nothing on the
internet…Recently I changed crank pulley and then problems began to
appear, I have hard engine start (good battery and starter) and it misfires
around 2500-3000 RPM and during acceleration from stop, I already checked
plugs,wires,ignition coils and they’re fine.
Thank you!

sensor>>it is still the same problem. Can you tell me what to do next.
Thank you

Hey I have a 2000 chevy malibu ls 3.1 v6. I got the p0301 code and I have
driven my car like this from work and my car overheated on me. What could
it be? I went 50 easy without my check engine light flashing.

Hi Scotty. So, my mom has a 1992 Ford Explorer XLT Automatic 4×4. Not too
long ago, the transmission had started to slip and then it started leaking
transmission fluid at a pretty rapid rate. It seems to be coming from the
front of the transmission, where it bolts up to the engine. It had no leaks
before, so it was pretty spontaneous. Is this something as simple as a bad
seal, or is the transmission completely hosed and we’d be better off
getting rid of it? The car was only 800 bucks, so, yeah.

Hey Scotty, i have a 2004 Buick Park avenue and the engine is misfiring.
now i need a new battery for sure and also auto zone told me i needed a new
cat. converter. Ive even been told i needed a new alternator. the car
cranks and just as i drive it a few feet it dies on me and the steering
wheel tightens. i crank it again and it gives me a bad idle, the RPM’s jump
up and down and it either dies or i drive it a few feet and its does the
exact same thing i mentioned earlier. got any idea as to whats going on
scotty?

Samuel Campbell says:

Hey scotty i would really appreciate your help on a subject.

I have a 91 toyota camry 4cyl that’s having a weird intermittent misfire
problem. It ranges from daily to recently has gone weeks In between
misfiring… Ok so here are the symptoms… It has only misfired after the
car has been driven for at least 15 minutes.. It can range between 15
minutes to an hour drive when the misfire shows up. Also when it misfires.
It gets worse as the car is driven.. If i turn the car off and turn it back
on it only makes the misfire even worse and sometimes makes it to where it
won’t even let me turn the engine over. (i just get a click with no crank)
after about 30 minutes to an hour of cooling the car will start up and
drive normal again… Also i just add that its 95 prevent of the time only
misfiring at idle. It won’t do it no matter the condition if i am driving
on the freeway in motion. Feels like it only dies when the rpms go low.

Any help would be great scotty. This problem has been bugging me forever
and no shop will touch it unless its actually doing the misfire… Kinda
hard when its intermittent and it only does it sometimes spread out between
4 to 7 days..

Thank you scotty for reading this. (i know its long)

Michael Lorin says:

Hi Scotty, I have an engine misfire in a 95 Nissan Maxima. The spark plugs
were replaced, but same intermittent misfire occurs. I hear a knocking
noise on the front right side of the car and white smoke comes out of the
tailpipe. Losing a lot of anti freeze, Any suggestions? Chances are it is a
cracked head gasket. Thank you.

Bold Eagle says:

Hi Scotty. I’ve been looking at your vids they are great!
I have a problem with my 99 R34 GTT skyline. I initially thought it was
running too much boost so I turned down the manual boost controller all the
way to prevent a boost cut but I still feel a misfire after 3rpm and the
engine is cutting out also jerking and keeps doing so up through the gears
and struggling to rev.. Also when I reach over 100mph and my foot is well
planted on the accelerator the check engine light comes on. Only when I
drive under 3rpm does the car seem normal.
What do you think might be the problem?
Thanks

Smoofie92 says:

Hi Scotty, I have a 2004 Ford F-150 Super Crew Cab 5.4L XLT Triton and this
thing is shuddering horrendously. It begins to shudder when accelerating
sometimes. I have done research and hit a dead end somewhat. Plugs were
done recently, I don’t know about wires (father’s truck not mine), I hear
it might be the rear diff. Any suggestions? I really appreciate the help.
P.S. These sparks are notorious for breaking the ceramic and needing a
special puller.

Another car question however. My car, 1989 Chevrolet Cavalier RS 2.0L is
having a power issue. When I go to floor it to get on the highway,
sometimes the engine drops for a moment. It doesn’t stall, it just loses
power then comes back up. Sparks and wires were done recently. The sparks
don’t even have 25k on them yet and they’re Bosch. It looks like I need to
do the EGR gasket because there is an exhaust burn mark on the block. Any
other possibilities beside that? Thanks for all the help.

Ryan Jordan says:

Hey Scotty. Thanks for sharing! I have a 97 4Runner V6 and I get a P0301
about once very month or two. It will come on, ill reset it, and it
inevitably throws a p0301 after a month or longer. Doesn’t idle/accelerate
funny. Just wondered if you knew what an intermittent p0301 would be caused
by. Thanks for any help!

Hey Scotty, was looking for your advice, got a 1992 mercury grand marquis
and i love my car but, its started doing this thing where if i drive slow
say someone gets in front of me the engine starts shaking until i let off
the gas, but i can drive it all day with no problems as long as i drive
fast/speedup fast. I’ve changed the spark plugs and visually the spark
plug wires look ok. was just curious what you think it might be

Hi scotty I have a 2003 Saab 9-3 it occasionally revs up to 3000 RPMs(
accelerating at around 5 to 35MPH when I acclerate faster I never have this
problem) then changes gears. No check engine light is on and I had my
automatic transmission fluid checked and was all set. any idea on what this
could be?

Alexander Martin Causey says:

Hey Scotty,

My mom’s 2001 Kia Sephia has a P0303 code. Autozone scanned it for free but
wouldn’t sell me parts because I “had no advice to go on”. So here I am. I
was gonna replace all 4 plugs and swap the #3 coil pack with the #1 coil
pack and see what happened but they got me doubting myself. They suggested
I just needed the 1 plug. Am I the idiot or are they? Anything else I
should do while I’m at it? Car only has 58k miles and lives in stop and go
traffic (my mom refuses to drive on interstate)

Do you have a video explaining ignition cylinder repair? My 1998 Toyota
T100 is having an off and on problem where the key (fresh cut at
dealership) will not budge and requires numerous wiggles until it turns

meTimetraveler says:

I always wondered how the PCM knows there is a misfire. Is it the un burnt
gas/ change in exhaust gas ( exhaust rocker arm came off) at the ox
sensor, or the crankshaft position sensor notices a slight decrease in
rotation for that cylinder.

My spark plugs are black around the ring, and the porcelain is still white
like new, does that mean my car is running lean? have a 94 prelude, it

Question I have 95 ford explorer 4L 4×4 and she isles rough, I’m thinking
it’s miss firing but why would the truck shake?

TheLowlyTraveller says:

Keep the videos coming. You remind me a lot of my dad. He worked on cars
for years. One of the philosophies he’s taught me is that if one side is
worn, replace both (or all if more than 2) because the other is not too far
behind the worn part.

Hey scotty, i got a atv that backfires like crazy when i give it gas when
cold. It idles fine cold and backfiring stops when the engine is at full
operating temperature. Why is it doing that, it didn’t do it before. Also
the carb is properly adjusted and clean. Air filter is sorta clean. Atv is
a 2000 bombardier ds650 with aftermarket carburetor and larger exhaust
