Thanks for the great details in your videos. This made the job a LOT
easier. We started dropping the sub frame on a 2004 mazda tribute and we
hit a point where we aren’t sure why but it just would not go down any
further. We started looking into popping the ball joints and that was a no
go in my book. Took everything you took off and found out that was how this
alternator was replaced the last time, but it was a rebuilt one so I went
ahead and spent the extra 20 bucks and got a new one instead of the rebuilt
one so hopefully i NEVER have to do this job again.
If you dont really work on cars but kinda know how then this way is the
best way to get your alternator out of a mazda tribute or a ford escape. If
you see this video and think “there has to be an easier way…” there isnt.
It is a rough job and it will take a full day to finish this job. I can
tell you If this alternator goes out then I will likely sell the car, or
call a mechanic instead of replacing it myself again. This has given me the
excuse to go ahead and pick up the parts to do some tuneup work though so
at least there is that, and the car runs fantastic now even at 200K miles
it is still going smooth with the new alternator.

Also, the 2006 has two plastic shrouds screwed to it. One on the rear with
a big vent tube connected to it and one on the front. It’s really really
hard to remove these screws also.
I’m working on this job at the moment and it’s completely ridiculous. Shame
on Ford. I have a 2006 with 3.0 and im stuck at the point where I can’t
slide the alt off the top stud. It’ll probably take a hour or more to get
the stud out of the block. I wonder if I’ll be able to get it in? Maybe
I’ll just replace it with a bolt and do away with the stud?
By far, the most helpful video I found on how to replace the alternator on
