Do you have to remove the belt in order to remove the alternator?

Fixing Things says:

You won’t need any luck. It is easy. You’ll do fine.

I just did this thanks to this video. The tension pulley is a biiatcha if
you don’t “Eat your Wheaties.” Other than that, it went pretty much like
you see here. I used a rebuilt ’99 Explorer 130amp in my 2000 Ranger. Works
like a champ! BTW: Yes people. Disconnect your battery. Positive, Negative,
both terminals, just disconnect them before you do this job. Thanks again

jdaley93 says:

shouldnt you also disconnect your battery when messing with your
alternator? just figured since it’s electrical and all

Fixing Things says:

Thanks for the feedback. This job is so amazingly easy – at least with a
few small tips.

Fixing Things says:

No, I replaced the belt because it was worn. The belt will tend to fall off
of the other pulleys and dangle around the fan shaft so it’s good to know
how to get it back on.

chrome4ks says:

Thanks. Made replacing the alternator a little easier on my ’03
edge..Everything is virtually the same.
