Excellent video Hiram. My ’95 Ford Explorer 4×4 w/4r55e automatic
transmission will not go into any gear. One day operating fine, the next
morning no response from transmission at all from any gear. No sound or
response of any kind. Any idea what would cause this? Thanks!

Josh Nazario says:

Ian Tran says:

Can you do an ford A4ld inspection. I have no gears and white smoke was
blowing everywhere last time my explorer moved. I’d like to rebuild it
myself with a little help

SweetDream669 says:

Excellent video! Could you do a video on the improvement mods for the A4LD
trans? I have one that is leaking trans fluid and there are some mods id
like to do to it while I’m in there. Or if you have any tips for it.

godbluffvdgg says:

I could take that apart…No problem…But I would do the Snoopy dance if I

This is a great vid. Auto transmissions will probably always be a total
mystery to me. But its cool to see someone tear it down like its nothing!

I really appreciated your video. Thanks for the walkthrough. I have an 87
a4ld that I have had many hard lessons with…8 pull-outs to date; my last
rebuild I installed the steel 6 gear direct planetary versus the 3 gear
aluminum planetary that decided to destroy itself resulting in the last
teardown. My question is, was it a good move to put the steel planetary
versus the aluminum one, and do you think it will do ok??? Danny Thompson

Hi Hiram? Do Honda’s parallel shaft design with internal filter is a
forever an incurable weak point as oppose to planetary design with
external filter in your opinion? Also, how good is GMC, Hyundai’s
transmission as compare to Nissan’s Jatco and Toyota Aisin?

Gary Joan says:

GREAT VID

GodBlessGnrlPatton says:

Sir Can you be kind enough to tell me just how much typical cost $ is
involved to include labor with this rebuild?

Hi, Hiram upon all the wonderful help you gave me with this video we
decided to not fix the transmission, and go to a manual swap. My question is
my truck is a 1995 mazda b3000 4×2 .Do you know what transmissions are
compatible with this truck in manual? thank you!

Josh Nazario says:

Forgot to mention its a 99 ford ranger 3.0

Milt Fletcher says:

Hiram, Great video. Question: My son has a 1999 Ford Ranger V6/3L 4R44E
Transmission that abruptly quit going in reverse although it works fine in
all forward gears? Any ideas on an economical fix or is a total rebuild
necessary to fix the problem? Thanks/milt

Eddie Grattan says:

go back in the tunnel… thank you eddie g

Hi Hiram,Thank u so much for ur videos.I have a quick question.I have a
2000 Ford Ranger with a 3.0 V6 and auto tranny. The problem i have is that
the truck wont move when u put it in Drive. You have to shift to 2nd and
when u feel it engages, put it in Drive, and then the truck drives perfectly
normal.whatching your videos i thought it could be the valve body gasket,so
it took it apart (and it was indeed broken) but when i put the new gasket
(the one that goes between the body and the steel plate) i noticed one of
the holes where the little bearing balls are located is empty..I know i
didnt lose it since i was very careful when i took it apart and didnt even
move the body but i have no warranty that someone could have taken it
aparta before since i bought the truck with this problem already…My
question is,is it posible that that might be the problem???? or is this
something minor?? I would really appreciate any ideas.Tha nk u!!!!!

Ok have a question for you costumer brought a 87 bronco 2 2.9 a4ld with the
1350 trans case told me he was driving then all the sudden it just stopped
would not up shift would no engage in any gear. So i told him i could
rebuild or to save him some money i had an a4ld laying around from a 302
swap i done in my bronco. So we took that wrought put the trans in hooked
everything up primed the torque converter before install and went to put in
gear then nothing. I did use the old torque converter but checked the
splines for the input and fluid was perfect so im kinda stuck at this point
any ideas?

Brock Ragsdale says:

Hi Hiram. Thanks for the great video. The reason I’m watching is because
the reverse went out in my 99 explorer 5r55e. I’m thinking the band may be
broken. Is it possible I could check this without dropping the whole
tranny? I’m thinking I might be able to shine a light in the bore hole for
the reverse servo and see the band, or push on it with a screwdriver. Do
you think this would work? And any other possibilities like a bad gasket
that could cause this? Appreciate any advice you can offer. Thanks again
