i am here to bash ford these engines are fucked every nut and bolt are
metric shit its an american made truck use american parts ford can go to
hell i will never waste my money on any ford shit car or truck again go to
hell ford fucken asswholes

jmott07 says:

I have the same problem right now. Looking to do mine in a few weeks. Will
let you know if it solved the problem.

justmyrandomstuff says:

dude…come do that to my truck!

Daniel Thomas says:

Use champion plugs the only one piece plug out there

Ray lynchsr says:

OH! DORF is because everything on a ford is backwards from common sense.

Ray lynchsr says:

Video helped me to never buy another DORF. The other day I went to find a
specific fuse and the underside of the cover said refer to owners manual. I
dont have a shitty manual, Ford sucks!!!

Jim Dailey says:

Why don’t you get something to put the camera on if going to do video.?

mmm1inmt says:

Annette, Maybe you should try a different date of the month to do your
engine work

Jeremy Scaggs says:

My 04 is doing that right now.

Jason Conroe says:

hey guy the reason the porcelain is gone, is due to the tech using the the
extraction tool …. you use a pusher first that pushes the
remaining porcelain down ( sometime can break the ground strap, no harm )
to gain enough room for the second part of the tool to tread into the
remaining part of the plug case…. after removal you have to remove the
case from the tool which is pipe thread … usual its stuck in vise to
hold it still … that’s why there is no porcelain left and smashed flat
… the only thing that could cause porcelain to break in a engine would be
the worst case of detonation ever seen… 23 plus yrs and not saying cant
happen just never seen it

MrOujmoore says:

Very helpful. My truck is doing the same thing. Getting it fixed tomorrow.

jackson j says:

broken piece will go thru the exhaust valve and get stuck inside the
catalytic converter but its so small it will not cause any problem

Review King says:

very helpful ! thanks man!

kevinhuck says:

Wrong!!! That piece was stuck in the head. The tool to remove the broken
piece did that.

Alex Garcia says:

Is there a special tool to remove these spark plugs? I have a 2007 ford
expedition and I have the same problem. Last time I spent $500 for them to
change them out. But I only have the 2nd cylinder that needs to be replaced
and I rather do it myself.

ososly says:

Quick tip, I have had the best luck soaking the plugs with penetrating
oil. Liquid wrench has worked great for me everytime, I Remove the coils,
blow out any debris and spray directly into the plug hole and let it soak
for couple days, plugs come right out. 2003 F250 crew FX4, 5.4. 217,000

Don Becker says:

Your plug was not broken like that till they tapped it for removal, the
process pushed the porcelain though the tip to make room for the tap. When
putting the tip into a vise to remove it from the tool I push it broke and
ended up on the floor and not into your parts bin.. Watch the removal
videos. just did my truck over the weekend myself. Broke 5 of 8.. tool
worked great. 110,000 miles.

Ryan Shires says:

Thanks for the Info I’m having the same issue. I’m going to replace them
this week. What plugs did you replace the old ones with?

Jim Ainoris says:

Run compression test in cylinder which swallowed piece ..send camera in if
u have…hope your piston is ok

Judah Flot says:

Terminator,
the broken piece that you refer to as the porcelain is the lower metal
case, which is a high nickel steel, that serves as the outer side electrode.
The bottom ring of that lower side electrode broke apart, but there is no
missing piece.
When your mechanic extracted that broken piece, they had to first compress
the center with the rod of a special tool. This rod was pushing the
ceramic insulator, along with the electrode down with enough force to break
stretch out and break the lower ring of lower side electrode.
So, that is not what caused your vehicle to misfire.
After looking, and reading your plugs, it seems as though your engine is
experiencing a slight detonation, that is causing the ceramic insulator to
crack; internally. When this occurs, the spark is taking place within that
crack, and randomly not making it to the tip.
Motorcraft SP-515 is very easy to crack.
I picked up some new ones, from the auto part store that was already fouled
out, which means that if you drop them to hard, they will break.

misael pacheco says:

Its called the soft failure cause no rich to on check engine ligth

Alex Garcia says:

Thanks!

MrChindow says:

my apologies

GunCrazy187 says:

Mine just started to miss at 185000 miles

Ben quinn says:

This was a real waste of my fucking time … useless video!!

BikerAuto63 says:

Yeah, when it’s time to replace my plugs, I’m not touching them at all. Too
many horror stories of them breaking and cracking open the block to get
them out. I’m hearing mixed stories of when to replace them, Ford said
100,000, mom and pop shop said 60,000.. I’ll go with the mom and pop shop’s
advice.

puttputtbuggy says:

Ya, Champions are ok for lawn mowers, thats about it

certified30 says:

you probably have a vacuum leak somewhere.

TheTerminator310 says:

I have seen them do that many times before where every one of them break.
That’s why I wouldn’t do it myself. Really more of a pain in the ass than
I’m willing to deal with, so why not let the pro’s do it, you know? The
5.4L 3V for the most part is a great engine, but when it comes to
maintaining them, they are hell.

LSMUSCL81 says:

Thanks for this info, I have the same issue…only threw a code once, runs
great other than occasionally stuttering on accel

Brandon Orban says:

I dont believe this video is correct. The plug is like that cause when they
goto remove the broken plug they insert another tool which pushes the
porcelain through the lower portion of the plug, breaking like you see
here. Then you can get the extractor in and remove it

TheTerminator310 says:

No, I think you’re incorrect. Triton is only the name tag for the engine,
but it’s not the manufacturer. The 4.6L, 5.4L and 6.8L Triton engines are
all part of the Ford Modular engine family and they are designed and built
by Ford Motor Company.

josh hacker says:

I changed all my plugs and 4 plug wires and I got the same problem in my
97, f150 with the triton, it seems like its trying to catch up with itself
too, vibrating and jerking, especially going uphill, but when I hit
overdrive it stops,smh

MrTpengineer says:

I have a 2000 f-250 that just got new ignition and spark plugs, but it
still shakes and try’s to die when accelerating at low speeds. :/

chanceiw5 says:

My autos teacher replaced all the plugs in his f150 and every single one
broke

jaredthomascanam says:

I believe the broken electrode that u keep blaming for the problem is not
the case! The plug that u say is gone is because the lower half seized in
the head. Yours only looks the way it dose in the video because someone put
that part of the plug in a vise to remove the removal tool after the job
was done. I know the headaches these cause I have one of my own and just
today I broke 5 out of eight off in the heads!! And yes they look like
yours after u put them in a bench vise to get tool out.

francisko cisneros says:

champions spark plugs is the best

Lariat Driver says:

My 07 LARIAT is currently at 102K and I bought it when it had 67k miles, so
I doubt its ever had plugs replaced. Thankfully it has not given me any
issues and has actually been really good to me and has great power. I plan
on switching out the plugs though just as preventive maintenance, as the
owners manual does recommend to switch them out actually at 100K miles on
my 07 5.4L Lariat

Haris Mulahasic says:

200000 miles no problems on my ford

TheTerminator310 says:

Then quit wasting your time commenting.

Kyle Fitzgerald says:

Yeah well I am glad they don`t use it any more in there new motor`s.

Jesse Suarez says:

I never got check engine light either but the truck started jerking like
the it was having a seizure i got all mine out without breaking them though
bought a damn lisle tool for nothing.

TheTerminator310 says:

Yes, I know exactly what you mean. The bottom part of the spark plug is
made of porcelain which loves to crack and break with age. Ridiculous
design to say the least. I’m glad they done away with it.

TheTerminator310 says:

Well, the gauges aren’t really any harder to read than the FX4 to me. But
yes, the electrode broke from just getting weak, I’m guessing. Or got so
hot that it melted the electrode. Sure runs alot better now, though.

TheTerminator310 says:

I would definitely go with the 60,000 mile interval. My misfire started at
around 67,000 miles, but at the time was bearable until about 88,000 miles.
But they really were already due by 60,000.

TheTerminator310 says:

On the 3V Triton, the spark plugs aren’t the only problem. The cam phasers
are crap and nothing but trouble too, haha. But it’s still an ok truck. And
yes, the spark plugs are very bad designed. They always want to break on
you upon removal and are just really a pain in the everloving ass.

Kyle Fitzgerald says:

it`s not ford`s motor it`s tritons they used a stupid tip of metal that is
weird that they did use that metal but now ford makes there own engines
with a better metal.
