I’m not a mechanic and I overheated my tranny and fluid started shooting
out on my 2005 ford explorer. Would be safe to change the fluid? Some
people say no. Others say to change it. The tranny is a delicate part of
the car and I don’t want to mess it up cause they are expensive. Any
opinions on it?
There is NO dip stick. The way you check the fluid level is to take out
that T fitting and if no fluid comes out, it’s low. Add fluid till it comes
dripping out
Dale, Stop trying to fool everyone. You did not change the ATF fluid. You
just replaced the filter and put two quarts in. Your transmission holds a
total of 12.7 quarts throughout the transmission and torqe converter.
Changing ALL the fluid involves a pump bypass process. You could not even
to begin understanding How to do that. What “T fitting”? And it is the
“secondary fill plug” Not a ‘Nut’??? Thanks for trying to help others, But
be sure to pass on correct information !
Is it true there is no “dip~stick” to check the trans fluid? I’m suspecting
I am having problems and need to check that before I do anything else.
Thanks for any help anyone can offer. (2005 Explorer 4X)
I do mine on my ford with no dipstick through the oil cooler pipes, I block
the suction so it doesn’t suck in any dust and empty it out via the
outlet.I run the engine and cycle through the gears until no more comes
out. Then block up the outlet and put the suction in a bottle of fluid and
suck the fluid in, then do the pipes back up.Drive it around for a while to
circulate, then I drain it and refill it with new fluid the same way, its
worked for 13 years never an issue.
Hi Foxxtrott, Here is a the e-mail Dale sent to my comment: This is Not a
Fluid Change. Daleintampa Says !! “12 quarts 13 quarts. Who gives a shit.
You seem to be the only one that doesn’t understand how to do it. I dumped
the pan and measured the amount of fluid that came out and replace that
exact amount. ” Dale, You Changed The Filter, You DID NOT Change the ATF
Fluid. Just Use The Correct “Title” OK !! Aloha, Holoka’i
Thats why these transmissions were prone to blow up. People had no idea how
to check it and the they run out of fluid and the transmission starts to
tear itself up.
There is actualy a fill plug located to the passenger side right on the 4×4
model, on the back of the 2wd model. You use that torx bolt as a level
check. You fill the transmission through the side plug untill it drains out
the center plug. this is for the explorer and sport trac models without a
dipstick.
Wow Bob is a Jerk-off!
Thank you , very helpful .
What about the torque converter did you drain it too? How many quarts did
you put back?
