The old Ford 5000 radio has seen better days, so here I quickly put in a replacement to last a while before I finally replace it with a superb Bluetooth unit…

Rick Hansen says:

Hey man!. Bought the adapter for the wires and a new radio. But everytime i plug in the new or the old radio, there is no power for the radio, any idea what the issue could be?
Cheers

james mcdermott says:

very helpful. can you tell me where the actual cd changer is ? just bought second hand car, and cant find the cd changer, think it may have been removed but not sure where in the car it would go ? thanks

CreativeTux says:

Hey, The plate I picked up on ebay, you can get them in kits also with the plastic part, the wiring adapter and also the aerial adapter.

Rick Hansen says:

Hey man!. The black piece of plastic you put in at (5:00), to make the room smaller for the new radio, where did you get that? Cheers!

Michael Mac says:

I wasn’t commenting on the Car, I was commenting on the nasty cheap stereo he was fitting. Pioneers are good, no problem with them…

CreativeTux says:

When I get around to driving this car again, door speakers are next on the list, the upgraded stereo didn’t make the standard speakers last long 🙂 haha

Ravintolavaunu777 says:

What do you mean? My Pioneer unit has lasted more than three years in Mondeo Mk2.

Ravintolavaunu777 says:

It’s 1.8 DIN.

Ravintolavaunu777 says:

You can even get adapters for speaker wires so installing new speakers is plug-and-play! Mondeo Mk2 speaker size is 5×7/6×8. I got JBL GTO8628 speakers for 50£ a pair and compared to horrible original speakers they’re amazing, balanced sound and great bass (I use the -3dB tweeter attenuation and tweeters are of course rotated to aim listeners’ ears. Obviously there are more expensive speakers but for the price I can recommend these.

Ravintolavaunu777 says:

I installed the new Pioneer unit on top and the panel underneath it. Probably easier to reach the controls that way. It’s quite easy since all the parts can be bought ready-made online. You might also need an adapter for the radio antenna, I had to order that afterwards.

Serenaar says:

Thanks for this, really helpful! I have a Fiesta 2001 with a similar radio and an old Blaupunkt CD unit which I need to fit. Hopefully this video will help a lot, but I’m still not sure on the power connections or if I will need an adapter. Ah well, the only way is to try I guess! 🙂

Bill Mac says:

I melted the shit out of it with a soldering ion. was about 5mm in the end. then filed it and sanded it smooth. then i can to get a hammer and wedge and smash on that mettle bit under where the head deck sits on lol so we are good to go. dosent look to bad 2bh just couldn’t get the outer faceplate housing thing on lol

CreativeTux says:

oooh 3mm Id be tempted to whittle the plastic away and sneak it into place If you need to practice first I’ve seen the plastic molding really cheap on eBay at least here in the UK 🙂

Bill Mac says:

Im so angry as ford right now lol so i bought a 2don head deck. i nice $300. but nope dose not fit cuz ford has the little inner plastic molding to make it like 3 mm smaller on the top and bot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CreativeTux says:

Thanks!

CreativeTux says:

eBay or Amazon are a good place for a kit. Its not a double gap, single and half unfortunately 🙁

CreativeTux says:

Hi, yes it will, all the Ford 5000, 6000 and 7000 units are the same. You’ll been that plastic part and a conversion cable.

Bill Mac says:

I have the 98 mondeo with the 7000 rds. will it be the same

MobileDJUK says:

Where did you get the parts mate, and can i buy a double to fit, and will it fit..

David Jakobsson says:

Nice man :)

CreativeTux says:

@Chrisredfield1 Im not sure about American comparisons, I know my Mondeo is called a Cougar or something like that over there. I’d guess it was pretty similar and have some kind of similar connections and possible adaptors to adjust the original wiring. I believe the Windstar is what we call a Ford Galaxy. 🙂 I don’t know why we can’t call them the same names! haha

Chris Redfield says:

I wonder if American Fords have the same wiring. There seems to be a shortage of videos on how to replace OEM Ford radios with aftermarket ones. I have a 1998 Ford Windstar minivan (I believe you guys call them people carriers). I am seriously considering buying a dirt cheap radio off of Amazon & saving money installing it myself. I might have to refer to yours here to do mine. Anyway, great video, Sir.

Michael Mac says:

Good luck in making that HU last more than a few months…

Jacob Ryder says:

would i have to do this to have an amp in the 1998 mondeo ? i want to run a subwoofer you see what would be the best way of setting one up in this car ?

wotldthe2006 says:

I got me a new MP3/ipod player but I cant use it due to not finding a mount for my car and the ones I find are way over 50 bucks one bad thing about having a car that many done drive.

Linus Pettersson says:

thanks for the quick reply! and no It’s okey, I’ll just go with an adapter and a regular 1 din head unit then, just had to be sure. again thanks! 🙂

CreativeTux says:

Hi, You are right its almost 1.5 din which is a real shame and there are nice double din units about at the moment. If you don’t have the heated seat switches and the traction control below I suppose you could do some fabrication to make one fit. nothing a bit of wood and fibre glass wouldn’t sort out.

Linus Pettersson says:

very helpful! this is not a double din right? but something in between 1.5 – 2?

richcoat1979 says:

thanks for the quick reply… I will have a look on ebay and then once the kit arrives I’ll have a go at changing my stereo… Will let you know how it goes 🙂

CreativeTux says:

Hi!! That little panel is actually meant to go underneath, but that radio is rather heavy so instead of using the back brace on the unit I let it sit on the bottom of that fascia panel. That panel came off ebay, it was all in a kit, the 1/2 panel, the ISO connection leads, the old radio removal tools (silver wire things) and the antenna adaptor for a few quid with postage. Any problems, feel free to get in touch and I’ll do my best to help you out.

richcoat1979 says:

really helpful video cos I want to replace my mondeo’s standard CD6000 stereo but being a 1.5 din unit and me being a total novice when it comes to car audio I haven’t attempted it so far! I will have a go now cos it looks simple enough but I was wondering where you got the bit that goes above the new stereo to hide the hole that would be there otherwise. Richard
