When you said that you built your own wiring harness….what exactly did
you mean? And, where did that then plug into?
The masking tape serves a couple of purposes. It allows you to draw on the
roof, marking the places you need to drill. It also saves the finish on
your paint when you drill the holes. You need to drill through the tape. I
measured using a standard tape measure using the method/measurements I
described in the video.
I did not use a relay. I did put a fuse inline though it was probably not
necessary either. They do ground to the roof. Yes and no. I use a test
light if I just want to pierce a wire to find out if it is hot or not. The
multi-meter leads are not really that sharp or small on mine. I just put
the leads in the hole in the plug. Then looked for 12 volts on the meter
when the light switch was turned on. You’ll need to ground the black lead
from the multi-meter also.
I created the harness that connects each light to the power point on the
truck. It did not plug into anything really. I found the stock plug as
mentioned in the video and then spliced into the hot side of the plug. So
when the switch was activated, it sent power to the ‘homemade’ harness. If
you buy the ford stock light harness kit, then you can ‘plug into’ the
stock plug.
Purple/white.
so when you put the masking tape on the roof, did you just use it for a
straight line or is that what you used to measure it and exactly how did
you do that and what is the measurements for the placement of the lights
Did you have to use a relay? I imagine the lights don’t draw much current.
Do the lights you used ground when they are screwed into the roof? I have a
set from JC Whitney that are OEM style that grounds that way. So the only
wire I put to the truck wiring is the power wire. One last question, when
you mentioned the multi-meter for finding the hot wire is that one of those
tools that pierces the wire coating and tells you if it’s hot or not? Thanks
Do you know what color the wire you spliced into was? I can’t find the plug
