Repairing my FERRARI 458 DCT OIL LEAK and How To check the DCT Fluid Level

While on the Bullrun GT Rally, I noticed that my Ferrari 458 was leaking oil. It turns out that I must have damaged the Transmission’s DCT Hydraulic line while installing my S-Line exhaust. That in turn was causing the car to leak DCT fluid. Josh sourced a DCT oil line for me and I replace the oil line to stop the leak. Then Josh and I top off and check the DCT fluid level. It’s a strange process to check the DCT Fluid level.

It’s easiest with 2 people as the engine must be running and you must have the car in Reverse with your foot on the brake. The engine coolant temp needs to be between 40-50C which is only about 110-120F and the DCT fluid must be below 80C. This means you have to work fast otherwise you’ll have to let the car sit and cool down for quite a while.

Checking the fluid is done by pulling out the DCT fluid plug on the left side of the transmission. A little bit of DCT fluid will spill out every time, but if it only splashes out and doesn’t continue to dribble out, you are low. If it streams out continuously, then you have too much. You basically overfill it then wait for it to stop draining out. It’s a strange system.

Nice video. In this you are checking the hydraulic clutch fluid or the gear oil? Do you have info on how to check the DTC fluid as well as the gear oil level? It seems like this transmission holds 8qt DCT fluid and 4qt of 75w-90. I have a leak on the cv axle seal to repair and need to refill.

Unbelievable my 2004 Corvette almost has a similar way of checking the transmission fluid the car has to be running while you're underneath to check the level
