Ferrari 360 Heat Exchanger Failure – DIY Repair Part 2

Ferrari 360 Heat Exchanger Failure – DIY Repair Part 2

Part 2 of the DIY Ferrari 360 Heat Exchanger replacement. See part 1 here: https://youtu.be/s24LlLgXlBQ

There is a common failure on the Ferrari 360 which is the transmission / coolant heat exchanger. The theory is that if you don’t change the coolant regularly, the copper in the heat exchanger corrodes and eventually it fails. When this happens, the coolant start pushing into the transmission and transmission oil goes into the coolant. Fun! So you not only have to replace the broken heat exchanger, you also have to flush out the transmission, and the cooling system. Likely you will have to replace some other components too. It’s a lot of work.

So our new Ferrari 360 for our dealership, NG Supercars arrived and when driving it home, it start to get hot so Josh shut it off and had it towed home. Unfortunately he found oil in the coolant so we immediately knew the heat exchanger was broken. We got the new heat exchanger and began to work on the Ferrari 360 to repair it and get it ready to be sold.

Great job on the heat exchanger, so far. At my age and zero patience these days, there’s no way in hell I would tackle that job. I can’t imagine what Ferrari would charge for that job???

Forget that copper crush washer it is just a formula for stripping out your pan, switch to a fiber gasket it will be more forgiving. When a lot of components are installed in a factory everything is oriented differently so that would explain why clamps and connectors are at caddywhompus and cockamamy angles.

The Fauxtist says:

Why does the interior exhaust tips look rusted?

Cheryl Albright says:

I actually would have loved to help you with this job. Brings back high school memories of taking auto shop, and great advantage of being only girl who was interested in cars, was tons of guys ready to help.

Waiting on parts is the perfect time to detail that engine while everything is apart. Looking good!

John Dziki says:

The reason it was so easy for you to do is that you had no "help" to get in the way.

Stove Guy says:

HE has coolant pipes and oil feed lines in middle of vee? Sweeeeeet.

Formula1 junkie says:

Curious what would a shop charge for this job?
