John Smith says:

I have a 1997 Dodge Intrepid with a busted thermostat, and the engine won’t
get hot if it’s in the 50s or lower outside. I also noticed that when I
squeezed the top hose with the engine cold, I heard a sound like the
thermostat was bouncing up and down on a spring. I noticed it’s been doing
this for years, but now, the heater won’t blow very hot unless the fan is
on low. Could I have a heater valve issue as well, or could the thermostat
be the source of the problem?

koncreteprobeats says:

my problem I am having is the alternator, I remove to bolts, but in the
back of the alternator it has another which I can not get no clearance to
remove it. I have a chrysler lhs 1999 with the same engine and alternator
in same place can anybody help please????

0utkassed says:

your 3.2 has the thermostat in the same spot as this 3.5

Im trying to see what year of the dodge intrepid es has the v-6 24 valve
3.2L because i have too change thermosstat

4shizzoo says:

thanx you saved me some time , but dodge needs there ass kicked for makeing
a p.o.s disposible car…

Daso1n says:

Yeah I know right.. I still have this car for fun projects.. The 2002s and
below are shitty.. This one has the so called “bullet proof motor” (2003)
so I havent had any major problems. We all one through these hardaches
before..just maintain it well and you should be fine until you get a new
car. Always check the oil and change out the tie rod in a few after 100K
miles and you’ll be good. Unless you drive like a maniac of course 🙂

523panda says:

Daso1n, Or MrSquarePants27, my question would be which way should the
thermostat be facing when installed? Spring towards the engine or away.
Thanks in advance!

dmajors71 says:

1. Disconnect negative cable from remote jumper. 2. Drain the coolant (via
the drain plug). 3.Lift front drivers side with jack. 4.Disconnect
electrical connectors from engine oil and power steering pressure systems.
5.Disconnect radiator and heater hoses from thermostat housing. 6.Remove
thermostat housing bolts. 7. Remove housing, thermostat and gasket. Reverse
directions to install. Torque housing bolts to 105 in. lbs.

MrLeyend1 says:

Dodge stratus r/t two door .. any videos on how to replace the head gasket
and thermostat.. already having g a headache with this car

Daso1n says:

Your Welcome. I wanted to make this a hybrid but now I hate this car. lol..
You need to keep close eye on oil changes and maintain it well. Ride it out
till it dies and just get a new car. That’s the best advice I can tell
anyone -Even as a project car its a pain.

siccindamind1 says:

Plz help

johnstreetvideo says:

I found that it is easier to remove power steering pump, alternator, and the
bracket that hold these two units off the engine block. That way you can
remove thermostat housing, hoses, and thermostat from the top without getting
fluid in your face. There is also a lot more room to work. Good Luck!

William Lusby says:

how hard was it to get the alternator back on?

Daso1n says:

Sorry no videos.. Its pretty standard though just labor intensive -I would
make it a weekend project. Make sure engine is cool – detach and secure all
fuel and air filter lines. The head is on top of the engine block. just
remove all the bolts and carefully use I pry tool to remove the head and
done. carefully remove the gasket and try not to make any foreign object
fall into the engine… I gave up on American cars for now. ..they have
been screwing us for years…my advice go import ASAP.

Daso1n says:

Thanks MrSquarePants27 I figured that right after I made that statement but
I was too lazy to edit it.

Nailah Eubanks says:

hey, i was wondering if you can get a hold of me at my email. i have
questions about my 04 dodge intrepid. PLEASE get back to me at
nailaheubanks@gmail.com Thanks in advance! 🙂

Daso1n says:

@elmerjanzen It is pretty difficult to get your hands under there to get
the housing off. Even more difficult on the 2002 almost impossible with out
going under or putting the car on a lift. So I couldnt film it. On the 2002
the alternator is on the bottom and the housing is right behind that -So it
is recommended that you bring it to a shop…which I know would suck for
many of you guys. You can of course jack it up, put it on jackstands But be
really careful. Goodluck!

MrSquarePants27 says:

Your thermostat is correct too by the way, If you notice the rating is in
celsius. Remember dodge Intrepid’s were built when Mercedes-Benz owned
Chrysler (Daimler-Chrysler) so a lot of the crap on these cars is European
influenced.

Daso1n says:

Anyone interested in converting their intrepid to a hybrid, If I get enough
request I’ll make a video on it.

DHY2KA says:

The “82” stamped on the thermostat is the metric measurement. The
thermostat they gave you is an 82 c thermostat. 82c = 180f

Brian McDubb says:

it is pretty much the same place.. i have a chrysler concorde with the 3.2L
so i’ve been searching as well, and found another video by looking for
replace thermostat 3.2 chrysler.. it comes up with a video of a 2002
chrysler concorde and shows the same location as this video, altho he also
goes under the car and looks up at it, which i think would be easier if you
have jackstands or a lift.

MrSquarePants27 says:

The other thing is that valve you were referring too at the top of the
engine is not to drain coolant, it is to bleed air out of the system once
refilling the coolant, The petcock valve below the upper radiator hose is
what you were referring to, to drain the coolant.

Elmer Janzen says:

Very Informative, great video. But I have to say it would have been good to
get a bit of video on the changing of the thermostat,( ie. get a shot just
before the actual replacement of the thermostat). And I noticed on my ’02
is the oil filter is EASY to get at from underneath, therefore could you
not just get at the thermostat from underneath easier??

MrSquarePants27 says:

Pretty good video but just a few pointers. Anytime you work on a car, you
want to disconnect the negative battery terminal. Which on the Intrepids
(Like Mine. 2.7L) is at the top left of the engine, above the passenger
wheel well. You can see it clearly labeled in your video. Takes 10 seconds
to disconnect. Once thats off there is no way to short anything out,
especially when playing with the alternator cables.

Daso1n says:

@DHY2KA Yeah I figured that out right before I installed it. Ohh and
another thing guys dont drain the radiator from the drain valve located by
the manifold. They are known to leak once you do that. Just pull off the
bottom hose and drain it that way.

Daso1n says:

NewAgeNote says:

The negative cable lead is on the passenger side fire wall.

SuperTapple says:

Thank you very much. I’m a 35 yr old female and you helped . God bless you
. Your the man!

levelselect says:

Man, I would love to be able to do this myself on my 02 intrepid, but the
apartments I live at don’t allow people to work on their cars. sigh… I
guess I have to have a shop do this for me.

MrSquarePants27 says:

Great job anyway!

Brian toenailer says:

Im surprise chryslers is still in business , engineers what were u thinking
when u designed this .No drinking on the job …
