My son just got the car in the shop for that exact problem, on his 2000 Nissan maxima, his estimate so far is $375. Plus more for a bolt that is bent somewhere in the belt area. So that’s extra. Is that pricy????

improper bleeding procedure! you need to get all the air out BEFORE starting the vehicle. it even says that in the repair manual! if you start the system with air in the system it could cause damage to the new pump. usually this is done with the front tires off the ground and turning the wheel “lock to lock” about twenty or so times and checking the fluid level to ensure that is stays full while bleeding out the air.
hmmm it sure looks easy…might leave it to the untrustworthy professionals though

that dodge pickup should have used ATF-4 not power steering fluid…

This is more of an advertisment for Advance Auto Parts than it is an instructional video. I was looking for how to replace the PSP on a 03 Windstar but all YT gives me is people changing them on a Dodge pickup and even those aren’t very good.

However, there are an increasing number of people in this economy who have little or no “disposable income”, for whom saving $200+ would be money better spent on groceries or utilities. If you can’t imagine the need to “do it yourself”, then this video probably doesn’t apply to you.

Not trying to be a smart ass but that’s not the proper way to bleed the system you should turn all the way to the left and hold it for a few seconds and then the same for the right that way you get the full movement or the steering box and it fills with fluid better

Really? Try it on a 2005 Dodge Caravan in the middle of winter. It’ll take you 3 minutes to do the entire job – that is, to give up until the spring both for the warmer weather and save money for the extra tools you’ll need.
I did this in the parking lot of an apartment with a small 1/4″ drive socket set with no manual or video having never done it before.

Average skills? Yeah – if you have air tools, a lift, and a well-lit garage. And a very easy pump location. Worthless video…
Took me an entire day in a cramped garage. The Caravan has three bolts holding the damned thing in, but to get to the pump takes quite a while. If I had it to do again, I’d have some air tools, a lift, and 4 beers for inspiration…
Tell me about it… All these ‘how to’ pump removal videos are useless :(

lincoln continental … had to drop the radiator and a/c to get the p/s pump out … during reinstallation a/c exploded in my face and belt tensioner broke … 2 hours = 2 weeks

Oh, for Christ’s sake! Why don’t you guys do something other than the easiest PS pump location? How about on a Dodge Caravan, where you have to remove the windshield wipers, the windshield wiper module (the whole tray that holds the wipers/motor, etc.) just to get the room to do the rest, which requires about three hours to do. This car is just like any from the 60’s – easy! Fags! But really, thanks for posting anyway…
