How to Replace The Lifters and Camshaft on a 2013 Dodge Ram 5.7 Hemi (Every Step in 30 Minutes!)

How to Replace The Lifters and Camshaft on a 2013 Dodge Ram 5.7 Hemi (Every Step in 30 Minutes!)

If you want to see how I diagnosed this issue, check out my other video on why hemi engines fail. You can find the video here:
This is Why Hemi Engines Fail
https://youtu.be/X6KwXSS09Hs

This vehicle took many hours to repair, and the filming and editing also took several hours. My goal was to create a start-to-finish video in which I could document every step of this repair while also maintaining a reasonable length video. Therefore, I do not expound in detail on every step, but instead decided to take an overview approach. That way, someone who is interested in this type of repair can see what is involved and how to fix it without becoming overly bored and having to watch hours of multi-part videos. As a result, this video is intended mainly for entertainment as opposed to being a step-by-step repair guide, although you could probably use this video to guide you if you decide to tackle this job yourself.

In this video you will find:
1. An overview of nearly every step involved in the repair
2. Torque specs
3. A close up view of the failed lifters and damaged camshaft
4. All parts needed to make this repair are mentioned throughout

wmhodges73 says:

Great info in video, im doing my cam lifters timing oil and water on my 2014 5.7 hemi with 74000mi and from what i read is normal worst thing for me was getting the har balancer off lifters seemed fine but going to replace them and a couple of bent push rods so far ill have cam out tomorrow hopefully lol

Gameplay says:

its actually easier to pull the engine and do it out of the truck on a stand. it only takes a few hours to pull the engine.

Joe Echols says:

Great video, how do I get in contact with you I have same problem with my 2011 dodge ram

Mixster Kusanagi says:

Great video! My 2012 Jeep grand Cherokee has a cylinder 2 misfire. The SUV ran decent, took it to a mechanic, he found a bad hydraulic lifter, replaced it. Now the truck doesn’t even run, it starts but is not stable. Is this normal could the engine be damaged? It was running before. Do you think the camshaft needs replacing or did he just not assemble it right? Any thoughts?

NicelySigned says:

Great video. I wish I saw this 3 years ago when I did mine.

Eric Elliston says:

I wish I had you close. Mine just went on my 2014 Ram and they want 7k to fix it…

Nicholas says:

It's gonna fail again, where did all that metal end up??

Greg Z says:

Why wouldn’t you wash the engine first so you don’t have to work in all that grime and dirt, just asking for a friend lol

MLCwarrior21 says:

How long does a job like this take ?

Jesse Gooldy says:

How did you hold the crankshaft when you torqued it

Jerry Fuentes says:

Great video thanks for uploading your the best..

YankeeLake says:

Excellent video. Now I know why the dealer wanted $6000 for that repair on my 2015 5.7. Decided to trade it in and buy a new car.

Ryan Elkins says:

How long does that job take? I’ve been waiting a month to get mine back. I took it in to have the head gasket replaced on the passenger side due to it leaking. Then I got it back after that and the lifters on the passenger side started failing.

Charles Fischer says:

amazing directions!

Josh says:

Great video!! Thank you for taking the time to put this all together. I'm getting ready to do this to mine. I'm hesitant to use OEM lifters since this is what failed in the first place. Are you confident that these will last any longer than the originals?

Rolando Pena says:

Question… what was the total on all parts and labors? Just want to know if its worth fixing or just buy a new truck…. please let me know i really like my ram truck

Ms. M says:

Ok, if I couldn't mistaken, the difference between the lifters are because the jammed one is a regular one and the other is the meds kind, look the same but they aren't. In other words the damaged ones are the regular that means the meds help some way prevent more damaged.

ToxicMiSTGaming says:

I am getting ready to do this same job as well as fix my grenaded timing components as well and would appreciate a tool list of stuff I need that isn’t normal sockets and wrenches and such

AD214 says:

This saves so much money if you have tools and some knowledge bout cars lbs

Abelardo Cardenas says:

Would that cause a misfire I've replaced both spark pugs a coil on cylinder 2 and still a misfire so Would a bad lifter cause it to misfire ?

Alien003 Hydrogen nitrogen says:

The fix is better than the dang truck and traffic tires and gas thanks for showing

Samuel R. Sands says:

How do you know your cam bearings are still good?

Stuart Shogren says:

So is this a problem with the lifter itself , or is it a lack of lubrication problem. Why do these lifters do this?

91GT347 says:

Notice the clutch fan. Its reverse threads.

Mimi and friends says:

Amazing video. How did you torque the camshaft bolt without having the crankshaft turn?

420 every day says:

Whit is the price you should pay for this job ?

Big Nick Energy says:

Did you seriously not put a hellcat oil pump in that thing when you already had it off?!
