angel mourland says:

hi did this and on my drive there was a scraping noise when I turned right if its the pin do I need it?

steve45ca says:

standard bolts

beagledog2011 says:

Did this vehicle have or need the caliper bracket with a recessed star bolt or just your standard bolts?

kevjay777 says:

Unless I missed it, you didn’t wipe the film off the rotors. I use DNA to remove it. I don’t think it’s a good idea to let the new pads get coated with it? I always wipe new rotors off with DNA.

Will Norris says:

Very informative. I’m going to be doing the brakes and rotors on my Montero Sport tonight!

steve45ca says:

hmmm you’ve got me there. I’ve never seen a rotor like this on a caravan and I’ve owned 3 (2003, 2002, and a 2007 grand)

pcbtmr says:

Nice video. How do you remove the rotors when they have been dimpled to retain on the hub? Obviously was not done on your rotors. Beating on the back side of them does not dislodge them from the hub. Any suggestions?

steve45ca says:

Thats one issue I haven’t had to deal with personally. Did you check fuses , brake lights etc? If the brake fuse is blown and you drive the van, the abs light will come one because it detects movement but not the brake light switch. I’d recommend searching dodge forum dot com there’s a ton of information there

Salvador Alvarez says:

My abs light is on 2003 dodge caravan how can I fix it

Fretka Flynn says:

I”m not see exactly

steve45ca says:

The cap must be put back on

Juan Ramirez says:

When you pump your brakes to harden up the piston is the cap already on or is it still without it

steve45ca says:

All good points Paul. I didnt know about brake fluid absorbing moisture… thanks

Paul Dunlop says:

Awesome how-to Steve! A couple of suggestions though, you should hold off taking the cap off until you’re ready to squeeze the caliper piston, brake fluid absorbs water, leaving the cap off will contaminate the fluid, secondly, telling people what size of socket you use for each step would be helpful, some caliper brackets use a recessed star bolt that requires a special type of socket, lastly using a dust mask is always a good idea, brake dust can pose a risk to your health.

MrPuroylan says:

Steve good video helped me a lot just got done changing my front brakes and rotors piece of cake!! Now if only you had a video too show how too change rear wheel bearing to a 2002 Dodge Caravan? That will be my next project!!! Could use your help!!

steve45ca says:

do you get the grinding only when you apply the brakes or all the time while you’re driving? there shouldn’t be any grinding. I’d call the parts store where you bought the pads and ask them. they would be more familiar with the products you bought from them

TheSlnitehawk says:

hi steve,
thank you for video it really helps a lot .i just got done replacing the pads and rotors
on my ’05 dodge grand caravan on both side.when i took it out for a drive,it is making a lot of grinding noise
on both sides.is this normal bec it have a brand new pads
and is it going to go away after1 or 2 days or so?

knightnem1 says:

the sway bar links are easy you need to have an allen wrench aka hex wrench and put it in the center of the bolt protruding out of the nut holding it on you have to hold the allen wrench while you turn on/off the nut and vice versa reinstalling them thats the only real way to get em on and off

knightnem1 says:

I have the 1999 Chrysler Town & Cuntry LXi with the 3.8L V6 And the Front Brakes are set up the same as yours Since all the models from 1998-2002 But still I learned alot and cant wait to change out my pads since i will do it tomorrow along with the serpentine belt and idler/tensioner pully assemblies

Daniel Grossi says:

can you show how to change the sway bar links

Anna McKane says:

Well done! Much easier than Chilton’s Manual! The Ontario accent is an added bonus.

steve45ca says:

A rubber mallet tapped side to side, top and bottom should help loosen it…. you don’t want to hit the rotor too hard as you may damage the wheel bearing

tcsports says:

Nice job been working on my breaks for years, quick questions working on the same vehicle as shown a 2002 dodge caravan I run into a break rotor that will not come off, lubing it now and suggestions would be helpful.

steve45ca says:

I have seen this done on other videos, but I don’t believe this to be necessary. The film burns off fine and cleaning them with brake fluid in my opinion just prevents you from smelling it when it burns off as it’s heated. If there is more to this, I’d like to know. It’s been almost a month since I’ve changed the brakes and rotors and haven’t noticed anything out of the ordinary. Thanks for watching.

Joseph9536 says:

Nice video! One thing you didn’t do was clean the new rotor with brake cleaner. The manufacturer puts a thin coating of oil on the rotor to keep it from rusting on the shelf.

blacktreesg says:

thanks im gone too change my front rotor disc

steve45ca says:

Thanks for the comments and thanks for watching
