The rollover valve must be removed from the old unit & installed into the
new unit before installation. This acts as a vapor valve in the normal
working operation & also avoids fuel from spilling into the EVAP system if
the vehicle rolls over.

Sherry Hubler says:

It’s a 97 dodge ram won’t stay running . And gas pouring under truck

Sherry Hubler says:

When I changed my fuel pump on my dodge 97. Instead of taking the roller
valve from old pump I just sealed it off. Truck ran great first day. Next
morning I started it up and gas is pouring out of tank under truck. Could
it be because I didn’t put the roller valve in New pump??????? Help

AirtexFuelPumps says:

If you have replaced the unit twice then chances are you have a wiring
issue. You will need to check the signal and ground wires. Check out our
video, “fuel gauge tech” and it will help explain how to diagnose the
possible issue. If you need further help, please don’t hesitate to contact
our free Tech Line: 800-424-7839. Thanks for watching!

Sergio M. Vargas says:

hi, I’m Very Stressed with my 99 Dodge Ram 1500 V8 5.2 motor. I replaced
the pump 2 times and my gas meter still going up & down. (The tank is full
of gas but the meter is telling me that the tank is empty. Do you have any
suggestions???

AirtexFuelPumps says:

You can use a light lubricant or oil on it to make it install easier.

sc3n3cor3 says:

Thank god I don’t have a dodge. y’all make all this look easy. Working on
older vehicles is never easy. Buddy, and I replaced his fuel pump last
winter. Couldn’t get the bed off, since dodge is stupid with there bed
bolts. So, we cut a whole in the bed, and got to it that way. Now his fuel
pump is out. Unlike Chevy and Ford, It is located on the fuel pump. rather
then the frame. Makes it 10x more of a pain in the #**.

AirtexFuelPumps says:

To check the fuel sender you will need a DVOM (digital volt ohm meter) to
check the resistance (ohms) on the fuel sender. But you also mentioned that
the temperature gauge does not work either. These two could be connected as
they are both within the instrument cluster. I would look into that
possibility first. Thanks for watching!

Michael Sosa says:

How can I fix my gas meter ? It doesnt go uo when I put gas ? And my
temoerature metter doesnt work either how do you fix that ?? Any
suggestions??

Michael Sosa says:

okay great thanks

Marco Boscolo says:

What type of lubricant is used on the roll over valve seal?

Summer Noybn says:

pump does run for a second on keyturn, so its not a wiring break.. my next
thought was the fuel regulator but im not even sure I could identify it, my
local autozone only sells the assembly and im not sure if the regulator
would be included or not.

Summer Noybn says:

truck wouldn’t start so we pulled the fuel line off at the intake valve, no
gas was present, listening to the gas tank no pump sounds, pulled the gas
gauge assembly out, hotwired the fuel pump alone to check it, runs fine.
Next?

AirtexFuelPumps says:

The next step would be to check for battery voltage & ground at the fuel
pump tank connector. You can view our voltage drop video that will help
with this: Trouble Shooting Fuel Pumps – Voltage Drop Test (Part 2) –
Expanded In-Depth. If you still need further help, please don’t hesitate to
call our free Tech Line: 800-424-7839. Thanks for watching.

AirtexFuelPumps says:

More than likely it isn’t the regulator since there is no fuel flowing,
unless the regulator/filter is nearly 100% clogged. The assembly would have
the regulator included, but pretty sure that the regulator would not be
sold separately. Sounds like you have a voltage issue and the voltage drop
video mentioned in the other reply above should help you find where it’s
at. Again, please don’t hesitate to call on or our technicians if you need
more help.

AirtexFuelPumps says:

Tom: This could be caused by low pressure. The next step will be to check
the pressure with a pressure gauge to see if it is within OE specs. The
spec for your vehicle is 49.2 psi +/- 5 psi. If you need anymore help
please feel free to call our free Tech Support line: 800-424-7839. Thanks.

AirtexFuelPumps says:

The pigtail adapter is supplied with the replacement fuel pump. If one is
needed separately then would probably have to return to a Chrysler dealer
or a salvage yard. If you need further assistance, please don’t hesitate to
call our free tech line: 800-424-7839. Thanks for watching!

Thank you i was asking because i want the 35 gal tank instead of the 26 gal
on my 99 ram

AirtexFuelPumps says:

Here’s a list of problems/frequent causes below. Looks like there’s a
circuit breaker in the system, but it’s in the headlight switch. Good
possibility your buddy’s diagnosis is correct. Problems: Poor headlight
circuit ground; High resistance in headlight circuit; Faulty headlamp
switch circuit breaker; Loose/corroded terminals or splices in circuit.
Causes/Fixes: Repair ground circuit; Test amperage draw of headlight
circuit; Replace headlamp switch; Repair connector terminals/splices.
Thanks.

The labor time to replace a fuel pump in a 1996 Dodge Ram truck (V8) is 1.8
hrs, according to ALLDATA. It will depend on the hourly labor rate in your
area as to the exact cost, but this should help you determine an
approximate cost. Thanks for watching!

Hi I have an 96 dodge ram pickup. Ever since I had this truck the gas gauge
shows that its empty even when I put gas. Do you think replacing the fuel
pump like this video will fix the prob? Thanks

Tom Lopez says:

Hi. Just wanted to let you know figured out the fuel pump problem , It
helps when there is enough gas in the tank! got gas in it it works great. I
think I need to get BLONDE STAR installed.but ty for the help.

ShortyzProductionz says:

i can not get the electrical connector off for the life me of! I’ve been
working on it for 2 hours now! I’ve pulled that red tab over and now I’m
trying to pull it off and can’t! any help?!?!?!?

AirtexFuelPumps says:

Your welcome, Tom! To answer your question: low pressure can be caused by a
few different issues. First, a pump can be faulty & cause low pressure.
Also if the pump is not receiving the correct voltage or ground then it
will not be able to produce the needed pressure. There is also a pressure
regulator in this system that controls the pressure. If it is faulty then
that can cause the pressure to be low. Are you having any specific symptoms
of low pressure?

AirtexFuelPumps says:

Hello! A faulty fuel level sender could be the cause. Replacing it may or
may not fix the problem depending on the issue. Watch our “Voltage Drop”
technical video to help in determining where the problem is or call our
free Tech Support line for assistance: 800-424-7839 to talk to one of our
ASE certified techs to help you in diagnosing the problem. Thanks!

Antrocker08 says:

Do the 94-97 have the same fuel tank as the 98-01?

Tom Lopez says:

ok just got done replacing my fuel pump 97 Dodge ram 1500. my problem came
when reinstalling the wires to the new adaptor the red retaining clip that
holds the plugs together broke. it slides back and forth but will not lock
the plugs together like it should. Any ideas will help as to what to do at
this point.

AirtexFuelPumps says:

Unfortunately, often times the connectors can be tough. Push the connector
back on all the way. Move the red tab from one side to the other to make
sure it is unlocked. Now push down on the release tab & pull the connector
off. If it still wont budge, then maybe there’s some dirt in the release
tab. Clean it out with some compressed air & try again. Good luck and
thanks for watching!

dk101motocross says:

Need to know where to get that pig tail adaptor asap

AirtexFuelPumps says:

No. They will use different tanks for the different years. Thanks.

AirtexFuelPumps says:

Hello Tom: If the locking mechanism of the connector broke, then the only
true fix would be to replace the connector. There is a little trick you can
use though… Take a wire/cable tie & put it thru the wires on each side of
the connector & pull it tight across the two halves of the connector. This
will keep the connector together until you can get a replacement connector.

BSinfoful says:

Who is the F____ idiot who designed that electrical connector on these dam
Dodges. I removed the dam red tab and it still will not come off. Above Tom
Lopes says to also push the release tab. What f____ release tab. How about
telling us where it is. Some of us can’t aford to take it to a shop with a
lift and everything. We are laying on our back trying to disconnect the dam
electrical connection. The stupid video does not show pushing a second
release tab. I am just going to cut the dam thing.

Tom Lopez says:

ok now my next problem is the headlights go on and off at random. a friend
said Dimmer switch. so having said that is there anything else I need tto
look at before I tear the steering wheel apart, like fuse breaker anything?

Tom Lopez says:

it is a new Airtex pump

Tom Lopez says:

First I want to say THANK YOU! for this web site. MY ?. what do you do
