In this video we give an overview of the process for replacing the water pump on a 2008 dodge Ram truck with the 5.7L Hemi engine. the subject vehicle is a 1500 however the procedure is similar for 2500 and 3500 trucks. Hal 9000 says:

Tx for posting the video. Always easier seeing how first.

Karen Law says:

all that trouble, why didnt you just remove the fan shroud to start with?

Sarah Hager says:

Would this work on a 2007 Dodge Durango with the 5.7 hemi motor?

m l says:

If you don’t drain the radiator first, how much coolant is lost by only removing and replacing the water pump?

Bobby Goss says:

Wasted time don't show nothing on the make model year I'm looking for

TheeJeffrocco says:

I was quoted $635 to replace mine, today. It is well worth paying for the shop to do this. They won't do as efficient of a job as he does, but I am paying for this job. Great video from a real pro.

James Helms says:

Great video! Thanks! Replaced my 2006 Ram water pump this weekend. Glad I watched your video first!

JustinBtchr says:

Should of taken that fan shroud out. Only has 2 bolts holding it in. it would of been less banging around on the customer's truck getting the pump out. Just saying. But thanks for making the video

William Fontaine says:

Maybe it was mentioned but I didn’t hear recommended water pump torque values or a specific torque pattern. I also didn’t hear any special thermostat positioning instructions. Other videos instructed to position the thermostats valve “up”. Thanks for the video, it was helpful.

Will this video work for 07 aspen with the 5.7 hemi?

Roy E says:

Great video, I here ya about the eye candy lol. I have to do my water pump this weekend. I have done a few myself years ago and noticed that you don’t use OEM RTV silicone on the water pump or thermostat. I guess it’s not necessary these days. It shouldn’t hurt to put a thin layer on the mating surfaces just to be on the safe side.

This is a fairly old view but thought I would put in my .02 worth. I have a 04 Dodge 1500 with the hemi and replaced the water pump about 2 years ago, same brand as this video, the CarQuest. Here is what I found really helps. I am doing the same job over again today and wanted to share some information.
1. Do remove the fan shroud, 2 bolts at the top side and unhook the 2 electrical clips on the window washer and 10 minutes max its out of the way. Makes access way, way easier. It keeps you from using bad, bad words during the process.
2. For removing the water pump fan you can make a holder out of a piece of 3/4 angle iron about 40"+- long with 2 bolts on one end that will line up with the holes in the front of the fan holder housing. This can be hooked into the housing and down against the ground. This makes it rigid so as you can whack a wrench on the fan spindle nut. And it will come off real easy
3. Follow the directions in the new water pump box. It tells you to put gookompucky on both sides of the water pump gasket. I didn't originally as the factory one didn't have any. So because I didn't use silicon I get to do it over again. The new pump started leaking just like the old factory one did. Leaks when engine is cold and stops when warmed up. The gasket in the 2 year old CarQuest pump was as hard as a rock, so ordered a new Felpro gasket.
4. When pulling out the old water pump bolts set your new one up close to the truck and place each bolt removed into the proper hole of the new pump. Once the old pump is removed transfer the bolts to the old pump. This helps keep the bolts in the proper location as every bolt is a different length. Saves you lots of time.
I am one of the 70% guys, but also think your cute:O) Not as cute as me, but being 2nd means you will try harder:O)

How did you loosen the fan clutch from the water pump pulley?

steelcity420187 says:
