my 99 had the same problem…i spent 1700 on a trans rebuild “needed” as
stated from mechanic. It didnt work. I ended up buying a new trans from
dodge. The problem though, was my pcm, The brain. It makes the thing shift,
and is programmable. So 3500 for the trans and brain from dodge. Im sure
you can get the PCM for a reasonable price. But, buy a programmer. Look on
dodgeforumdotnet good luck.

Excellent video. I have the same exact problem on my 98 Dodge. I did not
have this problem until I got “unstuck” out of the mud. Now… my seat belt
light stays on, any ideas on how to test the switches without taking the
leather seat cover off? Thank you again for this very informative video.

I don’t know if mine would be this but it is very laggy while acceleration
and jumpy. Any ideas 2004

MasoudMobli says:

Shane, This fix has nothing to do with your shifting issue. This sensor
failure will cause your break and ABS light stay on and speedometer works
after you go faster than 20-30 miles per hour. Unfortunately, I think you
may have transmission issues on top of your speed sensor failure. Good
luck.

Hello, If i dont replace this right away what will happen? I’m, not off for
a couple days so i woont get to fix this til the weekend. Can i still drive?

Problem with mine as well. Gotta love the Dodge. Great video, you should
get more up, they will sure come in handy. 99 Ram – love the truck but onto
the next issue.

MasoudMobli says:

Eric, I drove the truck for day or two before I changed the part. However,
this is a safety issue. The sensor is part of your ABS system and can
affect how the system performs. Good luck to you.

I have the same problem but I replaced the sensor and my brake light went
off but my abs light is still on and my speedometer isn’t working at all

I was wondering.. I have a 2000 dodge ram 1500 , and my speed sensor doesnt
work.. my abs and brake light are both on.. my truck is shifting late from
1st gear it revs up to 3000 rpm before it switches to 2nd gear.. do you
think my problem with late shifting would stop if i replace my speed
sensor? Thank you ..

Jim H says:

Video was great!! Followed the instructions. Only prob was the sensor broke
when I was prying it out, there was corrosion on the hole. Then got the
o-ring out and it pulled right out. Used the same sensor as the author. I
took off the spare tire. Worked from the back. Lots of room. Thanks very
much MasoudMobli. We appreciate you putting this up, Jim in Nebraska.

This helped me a ton. I just bought a 1997 Ram and the speedometer did not
want to work, this helped me get it back in working condition. Thank you so
much!
