@KillerZero259 Usually theft, but also the tumblers will go bad causing
difficult movement of the cylinder.

Tom McDonald says:

great video but i have 2 questions, should i worry bout disconnecting the
airbag or does disconnecting the battery cable deal with that? does the key
have to be in the on position? mine has actually broken off inside and i
cannot turn it at all, thanks for the video and thanks for your help!!

1A Auto Parts says:

Since the ignition seems to be an issue anyway I would start there first.
If there’s a drain on the battery what you could try is to put a test light
between the negative battery post and the negative battery terminal. The
light will light up if there’s a draw on the battery. Try pulling the fuses
out of the fuse panel one by one to see if the test light goes out. If it
does go out when you pull the fuse, that is the circuit that the draw is
coming from. Hope this helps. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

1A Auto Parts says:

The issue could be the cylinder again unfortunately. It might be binding up
because it may not be aligned correctly for the key.

dean welcome says:

can you rebuild that one like the chevy?

KillerZero259 says:

@1aauto yeah you’re right. if i ever do need a replacement, 1a auto will be
the place i will go to. thanks for your replies!

Caleb Larsen says:

exact same and I have to replace mine tomorrow.

i have an 1986 cutlass…just recently i had work dont to my steering wheel
collar…make a long story short he ended up making and building a new
ignition switch below the steering wheel on the lower dash board area…but
now my windshield wipers aren’t working.. can u please tell me what i
should do? thanks

1A Auto Parts says:

The ignition switch will be similar as you see in the vehicle. Those
vehicles may need to have the switch reprogrammed to the vehicle.

Dennis Bolan says:

how would you get it out to replace it if you cant get key to turn at all?

1A Auto Parts says:

You may want to have the shop that did the repairs take a look at it for
you incase the wired something up wrong.

1A Auto Parts says:

If you cannot get the steering wheel to turn, the issue will be with the
tumbler and locking piece inside the steering wheel not being correctly
aligned with each other. Most of the time the issue lies with the lock
tumbler.

1A Auto Parts says:

@KillerZero259 Yes, theft would most likely result in damaged or destroyed
cylinders. Tumblers or the mechanism wearing out depends, some may never go
bad. But if it does you can find a replacement at 1A Auto dot com and there
is a video to show you how it is done.

Corey Cox says:

I just replaced the lock cylinder in my car using your video. First I want
to say it was very helpful and I got the job done in 10 min,While I did
need a new lock cylinder ( key used to come out while ignition was on and I
could start car with a key to a different car.) But my issue is the car
ignition power wont turn off.The engine will shut off but the switch
position gets “stuck” between engine start and ignition power off. What
could be going on?

KillerZero259 says:

why would you need to replace the lignition key cylinder?

Smoothinstalls says:

So just Replace Am i correct

cmc300m says:

How do you get the cylinder out if the key will not turn the cylinder?

karina sanzon says:

Wat if the key won’t turn

1A Auto Parts says:

You could have a couple of blown fuses, you may want to check them to see
if they’re all good.

1A Auto Parts says:

If you haven’t already try to jiggle the key up and down as you try to turn
the ignition forward, sometimes this will work it free so that it turns for
you. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

cpep33 says:

I have 05 dodge dakota, when you put the key in sometime it will not turn
the cylinder. If you force it in it may work then. Is this a problem with
the tumbler or the switch?

1A Auto Parts says:

You would need to get the ignition to turn somehow so that you can remove
it. If the key will not turn it, you might have to have a locksmith unlock
it for you.

1A Auto Parts says:

You need to get it to turn somehow so that you can take the ignition out.

Steven P says:

I have a 94 acura integra. Is this process similar? My ignition works fine
but I think someone tried to steal it from the previous owner. The key
works on all the doors and ignition but I can remove it from the car while
it is on. I just need the cylinder and not the whole assembly and wiring?

freshmichael says:

Ok and u can do that by turning the key to the on position for 10 mins and
30 seconds three times right?

bradys537 says:

Can u replace the switch without turning da key

freshmichael says:
