Great Information!

How did you have so much room to work with around the sensor? I, too, have
a 2000 Dakota, quad-cab with a 4.7l V-8, but, I have so much stuff in the
way that I cannot get a turn on the wrench. Yours looks like you could hold
a dance in there compared to mine 🙂

I am not sure what the difference is, but you did not mention which tranny
you have. I have the manual, do you have an auto? If that is the case, this
might be the reason.

How do you know which 02 sensor to replace? I believe there are 2. My code
is p0138. Thanks!

TheAutoFiles says:

I am not sure about the code. But the two sensors are fairly easy to
determine. If your mpg has dropped, then it would be the sensor closest to
the engine. If the mpg has not changed, then it might be the rear sensor
(not sure). The front sensor tells the computer if the engine has a lean or
rich mixture. If it is bad, then the computer goes to a rich mixture mode
to protect the engine and therefore bad mpg. Mine went from 20 mpg to 16-17
so I knew it was the front sensor. I hope that helps.
