I have the same freaking phobia. You aren’t crazy…just cautious.

Chris Carranco says:

I tried from the top and could not get it out. I tried from the bottom and
could not see the bolt but with your video I was able to still get to it.
it came out so fast I was shocked. Thank you so much for your detailed
video! When it came time to reinstall, I was able to maneuver the tool with
the bolt on it and before I knew it I was done! had more of a hassle
putting the cover panel back on! Thanks so much!

ikey1555 says:

today I replaced my Belt belt tensioner on a 1992 chrysler imperial, It
was the biggest pain in the ass. I had to take out the alternator and a
bunch of random other crap just to have a few inches to fit my ratchet.
Never seen such a horrible design in all my days

TheSperryFamily says:

if i could get my hands on the person who designed this….

Bobby Vincent says:

Thx for filming this for us fearless newbs. One bolt – sure it’s
simple – but it couldn’t have been more of a pain in the ass. Having to
jack the car WAY up high – and barely being able to get to the nut. Dunno
why they couldn’t just make it where you thread a bolt through the
tensioner into the mount. I guess the tensioning guts would get in the
way. Whatever- got mine done so hopefully that’s that.
FYI bought mine new on ebay for $25. Goodyear brand, free ship, from
sae-auto. Ordered on a Fri -received on following Tuesday.

MyRook says:

Going over to my Dads to fix his tensioner. The threaded rod broke(snapped)
on his. I think there is an underlying problem.(maybe the idle pulley has
locked up?) But any way..THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO. This really
helps out.

Jean Smith says:

good one

elfrescotv says:

How about friend? can you help me? what happens to my 98 grand caravan when
it enters the second change will be a sharp blow and so does the slow down
and feels a bit heavy (forced) that can be, and if this has to do with
consumption gasoline and spent too much!

by the way, is the transmission repair! I hope you can help me, thanks!

cfjwang says:

WARNING ! ! ! DON’T DO IT FROM THE TOP. IT’S A BAD IDEA. When you remove
the long, 15mm bolt at the bottom of the alternator, the nut easily falls
out from the other side of the alternator. So who is going to hold a nut
for you when you reinstall the alternator? That means there is no frigging
way to put the alternator back without removing all kinds of other stuff
out of your way – I’m still working on this problem. I jacked up the car
and realized that doing it from the bottom is straightforward, period.

chesser95 says:

Went from the top. Saw a 3.8 ltr engine that was removed from a van out at
the junkyard & saw exactly where each bolt went & where. Better than any
video or diagram you could make. Once I knew where everything was, it was
simpler to just do it from the top. 1/2 hr job at that point & it now runs
quieter than a new one. Thanks again!

firestone charged me 280 by the way

skygod684 says:

I was already subscribed. The heater core was pretty easy. I can’t beleive
you did the stearing rack on one thou. That got 5 stars in my book. Must
have took you days to complete and all in the road. That was pretty brave
of you.

905speedgta says:

squeaks. you know if you need a tensioner if its crooked, has excessive
movement

905speedgta says:

could be a number of things… sounds like a security feature…lets start
off with the year make and model…Im feeling your gonna tell me 2001-2007
chrysler town and country?..let me know

905speedgta says:

Seems that When these vans became ” DIAMLER CHRYSLER” products they went
to Crap. bless you for doing a Heater core on that particular van. I heard
it was a real pain in the ass.. Ill take a 1996-2000 Chrysler Minivan over
a 2001-2007 Diamler chrysler.. I havent researched the newer ones. But Ive
personally owned and worked on the 4th Gens 01-07.. And for the most part
junk…as u already know lol….Subscribe to my channel I have some good
96-00 vids commin..working on them now

Aaron Brown says:

Its only money sad part is it didn’t fix the squeaky belt omg its bad I
think its water pump but not sure

raiders209norcal says:

great vid bro,how do you know if you need another Belt tensioner pully

baggins555 says:

Thanks for the video. If I may comment though- You said first “relieve the
tension from the belt”, but there’s no explaination how to do that. I know
I am a dumbass for not knowing this, but that’s why I need a video to do
the job..lol. Also, It is really hard to see what’s going on (perspective
wise) underneath the car. It just looks very random, IDK. Some handy info
though, thanks again.

905speedgta says:

you welcome.. and Sorry my video couldnt guide you totally.. i try to gear
my videos towards all types of audience, beginner, novice and expert… You
relive the belt tension by pulling the tensioner in the opposite direction
relieving the tension from the belt with a serpentine belt tool or a
wrench..long wrench. if the bottom looks random to you, just go at it from
the top…and dont say your a dumb ass, everyones intake on automotive
mechanics is different.

Mustard n Biscuits says:

ya i just did my 96 3.3 and that back nut was a fuggin pain to get off!
putting it back on was easy hand threading with an extension and swivel
adapter.

KATIE TRINH NGUYEN says:

what are the causes for the engine not to start? actually, it starts but
then shuts off immediately. please help

Eugenio Capielo says:

From the bottom was soooo easy.

snowfallzz says:

looks like the beginning of a mission in GTA lol. music too.

905speedgta says:

belt or tensioner pully

Darryl Mckinley says:

Thank 905… for your advice. I took the tensioner off my car and I’m in
the process of obtaining another one. 905… or anyone on U2 answer me this
question. Can a faulty belt tensioner prevent a serpentine belt from going
on the car?

Tim Smith says:

i put in Belt tensioner pully in my 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan today it took
1hr 1/2. i put it in for the top. the hardest part was getting the
altenatol out..thx for the tip. i save $200

michaelheiland123654 says:

Aaron Brown says:

yo 905 hit that beat man play some funk my man

JSNurFRND says:

Skygod684 accidentally pressed post I have a 98 caravan when I turn on the
AC it sounds like a rod is knocking very slightly also the rear window add
the windshield wiper the AC button the recycle button they all blink when I
start it up 10 minutes later they stop

grandcarvan1999 says:

I know how it feels

Don Arangio says:

30 bucks? I paid 40 for a new one at autozone. sorry dude.

bboliek says:

Big help! I had to use a 15mm 1/2 inch socket to break the tensioner bolt
free, but had to go to a 3/8 drive to finish. Thanks for posting.

905speedgta says:

did you get it from the top or the bottom?

905speedgta says:

your welcome. also, look out for a bad front main seal. I couldnt find out
why my belt was slipping all the time..well i just did, my front main oil
seal is bad, and its spraying a light mist of motor oil all over the
belt..Im going to do a video on that

pc5200 says:

Is tension pulley same as idler pulley? I think i bought or got wrong part
and just wasted money.

gungadin36 says:

Nice video but on our 1996 Dodge grand caravan there is no way to get to
that 15mm bolt behind the tensioner, I’d have to use a blow torch to cut
away all kinds of brackets and braces:) We can’t get it from the top or
bottom, we are in the process of removing all of the brackets on the top,
the alternator, power steering pump, the pump is not easy to get out
either, Chrysler engineers were on crack when they designed this. So far 3
hours and we are no closer to getting it out:)

chesser95 says:

Thanks, this worked almost perfectly on my 96 T&C. Pain in the ass job, but
the step by step was a pretty good presentation.

905speedgta says:

you might be moving it in the wrong direction. I cant see these things
freezing. altho anything is possible. try moving it in different
directions.. if it is indeed frozen i would remove it adn replace it

Aaron Brown says:

They replaced the tension pulley but the nose is still their I think it
might be a pulley also because it stops unless I hit the gas and it seems
like stuff moves a bit it might need an engine mount too to keep it in
place but I think by looking at it that it is the water pump

905speedgta says:

Your Hvac system needs to be calibrated. I have a video on how to stop
this. its on my channel
